It's a good price for this particular model, but I'm unconvinced of the benefit of this over buying the regular 7" fire tab, which is half the price. Sure you get the replacement guarantee but you could just buy another 7" fire next prime day!
We are buying for our twins and the kids pack and case need to be bought separately for the standard fire tablet

Does the regular fire have the parental controls? Don’t forget the case is quite good.

On top of what has already been mentioned there is also "kids for fire" which is £4pm or £2pm with prime, that unlocks a lot of apps, ebooks and videos that would otherwise be paid for
Ok, how SLOW is it? I had a couple of child-friendly tablets and the response of the software was driving me absolutely nuts...
Also, is it possible to play pre-download private videos from the memory card?
I've got a 2 year old version of this - it doesn't have the stand on the case. Does anyone know if this one is a step up. I'd get the new case warranty and year subscription but wasn't sure if the tablet itself is any better.

This is the new fire tablet released in June this year looking at the description. Looks to have improved specification.
My son is 11 and has never had a tablet or any mobile device. I think getting young kids hooked on these things is a mistake.

"Kid proof case"? ha! - they obviously don't know my kids ....

Not so much careless; as "destructively curious" (everything, must surely have been designed to be taken apart - right?)

I bought it and send it back a few weeks ago. It was struggling opening any app.

If it's the normal one to watch a few videos and books the it can be used. The kids edition comes with a lot of apps and your kids will hate it cos it will be slow and painful

The 8 has 1.5gb ram, will that make much of a difference..

Don't bother with the 16GB version.

Yes. Very big difference.

I had the 7 and kids hated it.

Got an 8 for the girl and runs fairly well. Got the 10 for the bigger boy and runs even better. But the 8 is quite good too

Agree. Get 32 and SD for extra.
I found these 'Kids' tablets absolutely awful. If your children have experienced a regular tablet, save your sanity and avoid these. Ridiculously ring-fenced and an absolute pain compared to a responsibly child proofed stock Android tablet.

The tablet version of prison for 'kids'.

Avoid, avoid, avoid.
