Some warning about On The Beach...

I booked with On The Beach a number of years back, and the advert for the hotel I booked was misrepresented and showed an entirely different hotel with a very similar name, When I arrived a the hotel shown in the advert... I was told it was the wrong place, and would have to organise travel to the actual hotel, which was an hours drive from the expected one. I was forced to pay for a taxi to the other hotel, which was poorer quality, nearly completely empty of other guests, and in the middle of nowhere along the coast - some 20 min bus ride from the nearest town. So I felt this was obviously a ruse by On The Beach to get guests to this less popular hotel. I even took screenshots of the advertisement for the expected hotel at the time. The staff there actually admitted to me that this happens all the time.

So because we ended up in the wrong hotel...we also missed our transfer to the airport when leaving, even after re-arranging the pickup with the transfer company, which caused us to nearly miss our flight home. We made it with mere seconds before the gate closed. I had to pay over €200 on taxis overall. I complained to On The Beach, and they basically ignored me and offered no recompense for the taxis I was forced to get, or indeed any explanation to the misrepresentation of the hotel.

I'm just giving all a heads-up, because I feel they are a terrible company to do business with. Please be aware that there are a lot of other people whom I have read similar stories about On The Beach if you search online. Voted Cold.

Blanes looks nice, didn't really like Lloret de Mar.

I had similar experience with TR. They discribed room as 1 Bedroom appt. Actually it was studio. Complained hotel and then TR no help on offer. So took it to ABTA to which TR is member. In reply to my complain ABTA said because TR used third party for booking Hotel (can't remember the name of company) and that third party not member of ABTA they can't do anything!
What a farse! This is how they get away with if you ever have issues.
Just warning for all.

Don't forget to add the £80 per child fine, for taking the kids out of school during term time
Bus 601.
I will never touch OTB. My mum went to turkey with them a few years ago. They changed the date of the return flights without telling her, and when they went to the rep to ask for help he claimed it was nothing to do with him and just ignored them from then on out. Me and my brother had to phone the company from the UK until they agreed to do their job and get them home.

I have to agree about doing the research , I’ve booked loads of holidays with them, if you read in detail I have found it says you may be moved to another hotel etc so I simply don’t book it.

I use a completely different company to book my extras like parking at the airport and taxis from the airport to the resort and back. I use holiday extras because they are cheaper and they give you all the out of hours contact details if there is an issue but have never at to do that yet.
I have just come back from Gran Canaria after booking with OTB, went to Greece last year, will be going again this year and will continue to use them.
I guess if you are not keen on sorting out issues yourself whilst abroad the companies to use are Thomas Cooke etc because you have rep, but as I’m sure you are aware you pay a lot more for the extra service.

I go on more holidays now because I can afford to with OTB.
Shame I can’t do this for me and my 2 boys. I’m wanting to take them somewhere warm, near the beach and affordable. Seems so difficult 😞.

Any tips?

Unfortunately it does take time and I have to say at times I pulled my hair out, however in the end if you persevere you will get there.
I pay a little bit more than I would like because I don’t like night flights coming back.

Just as an example puerto rico hottest part of Gran Canaria during the Easter/ Christmas periods, temperatures between 28 to 31 degrees , ignore the temperature guides on the websites for Puerto Rico it’s definitely better than what they say.
We paid £1350 for 7 days. I used holidayextras website to book my parking from East Midlands for £41.00. This was in the airport only 7 minute walk to departures.
I also paid for my seats separately so we can all sit together which was an additional cost, but if your children are below a certain age , I think 12 is the default on the booking it costs an additional £8.00 to make sure you are sitting together, that was with Ryanair. But this is all done through on the beach.
I know many people don’t like them but I really can’t complain.

I normally go all inclusive but decided to go self catering this time and it was far better, not restricted to the restaurant times, boring food and rubbish beer.

I will always go self catering from now on and again it’s cheaper.

I actually came back with euros which is rare.

The luggage allowance with Ryanair is 10 kilos each person . I pay for one hold case and use my 10 kilo allowance for each person. To be honest we don’t need the hold case, the free 10 kilos cases is enough but I just have to pacify my wife, who decides to fill it up with about 15 kilos, which does annoy me because we didn’t really have to pay for it. Especially when we only take 2 of our free 10 kilos.

Wheres the sense in that?

Anyway hope you find something just keep searching, by the way don’t forgot HolidayPirates , they are also good.
