This deal is based on 2 adults flying out from Birmingham on Tuesday 8th May returning Tuesday 15th May. I’ve chosen the 3* Apokoros Club Apartments which have a 5/5 rating on Tripadvisor!

If these dates aren’t ideal for you throughout the month of April/May the prices are similar. Other airports such as Leeds and East Midlands are similar however the rest are considerably more expensive.

I’ve chosen the 3* Apokoros Club Apartments which are located in the beautiful resort of Kalyves. The hotel is a beautiful studio in the heart of the town and minutes from the beach. It has fabulous reviews on TripAdvisor with an average rating of 5/5 stars. There is a tourism tax of €3.49 to pay over in Greece.

It will cost around €65 return in a taxi it is around a 30 minute ride. If you want to have your transfer booked in advance you can book a shared shuttle Via Hoppa for £55 however this will take longer than 30 minutes. If you’re like me and prefer your own freedom a car hire is around £72 for the week!

I have only included hand luggage to keep the price down. You will be surprised how much you can fit into a 10kg hand luggage case along with your second handbag/rucksack.

If you feel this just isn’t enough for you, think about sharing a 20kg suitcase, it will add £50 onto the cost of the trip if you share one, or £100 onto the total cost if you want one each, think and pack carefully!

Only a Hyundai i10, nothing super fancy, larger cars were only a few £££ more though
I'd be amazed if you could get car hire for a week for £72 in crete (unless the excess is huge)

Kalyves is a lovely resort as is almerida just along the coast

What you do is buy insurance excess for a whole year for like £30 then hire the car with no insurance

Exactly this, we had to claim once, it took a few months to get the money back but it’s definitely worth it!

The thing is they have so many loopholes to get out of not paying and generally have terrible reviews. We always pay more to have full cdw & Edw

What is the name of the car hire for £72 then?

This is without the no excess insurance as many people buy it separately! It shows £105 if you want to take out the insurance. It’s always worthwhile shopping around for annual insurance though as it’s well worth it if you frequently hire cars abroad!

It’s gone up £1 since this morning, search through sky scanner, it’ll take you to vehicle rent where you rent it through IFS RENT which is a Greek company

Yeh go on this tells you about hiring a car aboard …Yeh go on this tells you about hiring a car aboard https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/car-insurance/

That link is about car insurance. Nothing on there about holiday excess cover. Cheapest I could find was £28 per week.

Regardless, the car hire companies block huge amounts on your card and I know it would ruin my holiday if I had an accident as I would be worried about whether the excess insurer would pay out. Most seem to require police reports. Good luck getting the police in crete to attend a prang.

For those looking for car hire in crete with full excess waiver and great new cars, I can recommend these (costs more but worth it for complete peace of mind)
