I’ve had it waived on some trips for some of the nights but it’s laughable to suggest that everyone who visits Vegas doesn’t have to pay the resort fee.
To be fair, it is unavoidable as every hotel will apply it, you then have to strike lucky that it gets waived for a valid reason - which in most cases doesn't happen. First timer visitors shouldn't be under the misapprehension that it's a fee that's easily written off by the hotel, in seven trips I've always had to pay it.

Thanks for this @Luke0051 As there is an unavoidable resort fee we've added this to your thread. Hopefully all the information is correct.

The initial comment said the resort fee was “unavoidable”. Unavoidable definition:

“unable to be prevented or stayed away from”

I have provided a first hand experience of preventing or staying away from it. As has the person after me.

Maybe it’s “laughable” because you haven’t read what’s been written properly, and nobody ever suggested “everyone who visits Vegas doesn’t have to pay the resort fee”?
I think it's fair that the resort fee is included, I've stayed on 6 hotels in vegas and 2/6 charged the fee. Anyone considering this deal, it's worth looking into signing up for mlife reward card - they do some great free room offers. We usually split our trip into 3/3/2 hotel nights - gets you about, stay upmarket, stay budget, stay downtown - the options are endless. I'd be a bit wary of the Rio as it's not so near the strip. Four queens (downtown) dont charge resort fees , it's very good location, great rooms if a bit noisy. Just my 2p worth

Just to note anyone looking it’s an Extra £170 if you want more then hand luggage

So unless your wardrobe for the week consists exclusively of thongs then you're coughing up an extra £170. Is that what you're saying?
The only way of having resort fee removed in most cases, is either a problem at the hotel your staying in, or heavy gambling in the casino.

We have always had to pay resort fees as we have neither had a major issue with a hotel, nor do we gamble enough to have the fee removed....comped nights however, are easily managed with very little coin in at resorts
I haven't booked alpharooms before for any part of my trip ,are they reliable ? I'm also looking at another trip with them.
From the link I can't see any info for flights. I run those days and the flights are 505pp alone. Very cold!
Anyone interested should check out Doug Stanhope's review of this property (he's now banned from all their properties), it's awesome!
The Rio Hotel by the way is off strip to the West...we used to visit it years ago when they had the masquerade show in the sky, but haven’t been for quite a while now.
Can use free shuttle to and from the strip

I booked with them 3 years ago hotel in Spain , they are fine just make sure you pay in full don’t get into paying bits by bits as high interest added to every time you it off

We walked there in the night from the strip, took about half hour. We got a taxi back! Very eerie walk, nobody around!

We manage to travel everywhere with just hand luggage - I make it my challenge.

For two reasons - once we had a suitcase go missing on a 9 day holiday - which was a nightmare and secondly it saves a load of money when you travel as a family of 6 and hold luggage isn’t included.

It is possible. In fact even if a luggage allowance is included we don’t use it - out of choice.

This could do with a thread in its own right. Maybe some packing hints/tips
The resort fee is PER ROOM PER NIGHT @ Rio Suites = $35.00 daily in-room high speed internet access (up to 2 devices per day for basic internet), all local calls, fitness center access for two daily (must be 18 years or older).

I wouldnt say they are totally avoidable. Like you said, normally if there are issues they will refund it. This year the Encore refunded our resort fee because our wifi kept disconnecting in our room so causing issues with our in-room Amazon Echo (first world problems when you cant use your voice to open your hotel room curtains :D)

Im assuming most people will know, but the Rio isnt quite on the main strip, its a bit behind Caesars. I'd say maybe a 15-20min walk? Not stayed there myself, we've always gone Wynncore, so cant comment on what the rooms are like.

We have stayed there twice. They stopped the free shuttle to Harrahs about 3 years ago, we haven’t stayed since. Getting poor reviews now as it’s about to be sold and no refurbs due.

To be honest I always take just hand luggage too! Be surprised if packing correctly what you can get into a duffle and a backpack. Which certainly with the bigger airlines i’ve never had a problem with as carry ons. 1 Duffle, 1 Smallish backpack. As long as you ‘roll’ all your clothes you can pack a lot more efficiently. For *some* the problem comes with toiletries, but again.. most of that stuff you can buy cheap for the week or whatever you’re going for anyway...

Save money, Carry on.
We didn't have to pay resort fees at the Desert Rose. Its a non casino hotel and room where fitted with a full kitchen. Really large living room and bedroom. We would 100% stay there again.

Even less of a reason to visit now then...I suppose people could always walk to the Gold Coast property and use Boyd Casinos shuttle bus.You would have to go to the Orleans first, then be dropped off at the Fashion Show Mall on the strip....bit too much of a hassle, Uber and Lyft would have to be the best options.

The comps depend on your spend and tier level. I hit gold this year and the comps are exactly the same for rooms as Platinum but I get priority check in and skip lines in restaurants and valet parking, not much different. I don't think the entry level sapphire will get you free rooms (it's been 7/8years since I was on that status) but pearl does and only 25k points to achieve pearl. I'm pretty sure the mlife credit card gets you pearl status just for having the credit card. They don't email offers, you check online or in the app.
The best I've got lined up for next year is 4 nights Bellagio/Aria + $50 room credit, exactly the same as pearl.
