Rather not bump into your kind.

Not in ours - went in this morning - the biggest discount they have is 20%

The majority of stores aren't closing...yet.

Not one for me. I don't like the idea of people rushing for bargains when all the poor folk working there are losing their jobs. Hope they get new employment soon.

Won't be giving them my money.

What time do Comets close on a Sunday ? 5pm ???

Our local store has already shut up shop. Don't expect to find any mega bargains other than 50% off display stock- other stock will simply be moved to other more successful stores for sale.

Watch where you're going and you shouldn't bump into anyone...

We were in a Comet store yesterday looking at fridge freezers. The discounts were quiet modest, taking prices to a similar level to what you can find online, with no delivery by the store available - meaning we didn't buy one because we cannot fit a fridge freezer in our car.

I think the "lovely accountant folk" who are "doing over" what is left of Comet are not giving much away.

There were literally hundreds queuing outside a Comet I was parked beside yesterday. The queue was about 200 yards long (seriously). Comet staff were standing inside the door only opening it every 20 mins or so to let people out and allow another 20 or so people in at a time!! It was pouring with rain and they were all getting soaked waiting there for hours to get 50% off last of stock.

surely its cheaper to buy stolen mobiles rather than just get 70% off over-inflated prices? oO

in my local there were around 50 people outside with a 2 in, 2 out policy but they eventually opened the doors to everyone and it was madness. Alot of lower class people and the average time to wait in the queue was 15-30 minutes it was that busy.

But the discounts were great, 70% off everything really, no laptops, Apple stuff or tvs, mainly smaller items.

you should NEVER buy stolen items and support criminals but do agree with the 2nd comment...

Must be a lot of variation in what is going on at various Comets. We chatted to the salesbod who told us his was a profitable store, so his job might be safe. Yesterday, at Bradford Foster Square. The shop looked "fully stocked" to me.

Here is the list of stores that are closing !!!

apart from first comment you vultures should get a life. A cheap toaster or freezer in the backdrop of thousands losing their jobs just before christmas, no rent paid or presents for the kids but as long as you get 50% off something you never needed thats fine eh!

I went to my local Comet yesterday to check what kind of offers they were now having, keeping in mind the store has a "Everything much go" poster outside.. I kid you not, despite the reduction in prices it would STILL have been cheaper to buy it online from other online shops.. Is anybody wondering why they went bust?

Comet staff deserve it, rude incompetent and couldn't care less whether they get a sale or not, hence why they're in this position in the first place!

Have to say earlier this year when I was looking for a new washing machine, we went into Comet and they were about £70 more expensive than same model at Curry's. I asked if they would price match and was basically told to go back to Curry's as there was no way they could match their price! Assistant was totally uninterested and not even clightly inclined to be helpful so we left and went to Curry's. I was in last week and items were either still very much over priced or you had cookers etc with knobs missing!

Staff were probably out the back.

Went to Nottingham branch yesterday. Very little discount on electricals. Hoping for half price MacBook Pro! 10% discount was all they were offering, although, they weren't displaying any apple reductions at all. Waste of time and fuel heading over there!

Went into Eastleigh branch this week and they were offering 10% off, it was cheaper elsewhere or online which is why they are closing. They even had a mac with no Apple keyboard and mouse - 10% off - no bargains to be had. Comet won't be any loss.

Am I missing something? Are some people suggesting that if you buy from the stores that are closing that somehow you're making the staff redundant? Based on that premise if they still have loads of unsold stock they'll all stay in a job.
Think someone didn't concentrate at school.

Just like Dixons/PC World/Currys anything half decent will be taken up by the staff.

Staff always gets first dibs. Doesn't matter if they're losing their jobs or not, its always been this way

Some people have to shop this way, some are less fortunate than others! They are not vultures, it's not their fault comet is closing down, and if there is a bargain to be had what's the problem? Every penny counts in this day and age. Comet staff are all miserable at our local store and it's not just because they are losing their jobs, they were all miserable, unhelpful and rude even before the store went down the drain! I've only been in there a handful of times and never bought anything due to the staff. So don't be to quick to pass judgement, live and let live!

Didn't go to my local sale, but I doubt the prices were anything special. My local Comet is huuuuuge though, they have at least 200 TV's on display, along with dozens of laptops and PC's. I wonder if they managed to sell of their stock, either it's a shame they're closing, but Comet has always been a PC World/Currys wannabe, except with higher prices.

Probably because you spent all your money with apple anyway...

My local store still well stocked with up to 30% off and STILL overpriced. Asked about a display model tv and was told it was the same as one from stock, when asked how long it had been on display was told 5 months!! I hope it is till there when the store closes.

Bloody lower classes, was Poundland closed? You get them outside Harrods after Christmas, interesting to see them mixing with the down and outs that sleep in shop doorways all the time. You PLEB! (not lianne21)

what?

I was the one at the forge, 40 mins before it was closed. They had alot of stuff, ipods, tomtoms, dvd players, cameras, etc, but they still only had 20% off everything, every other comet was 70% off, they said they were shipping their stock elsewhere and wouldnt be anymore discounts. Very strange, why waste money they dont have moving it, they could have sold that stuff in like 10 mins if it was reduced.

I was in another comet and with 70% a sandisk 32gb i could still get cheaper online its sad but its why they have gone.

what's with all the self-righteous comments about not buying stuff from comet? get a grip people, step outside your bubble and come join us in the real world.

Do you understand how administration works? The "lovely accountant folk" run the company to try keep it going (with people employed) in the hope they can find a buyer to rescue it, if not, they try and realise as much cash from the stock and other assets in order to pay off creditors, including a ring fenced pool for a portion of employees' wages... If the "lovely accountant folk" didn't do any of that, and it just went bump, no-one would get much at all.

And no, I'm not an IP or accountant working in administration. And yes, they do get fees for doing it.
