Expected from a 720p camera. But, you can see what it needs to see right? It works well for its purpose, doesn't it?

Indeed it does. On mine I’ve only ever pulled the footage a few times and tbh as long as you don’t need to read a license plate at 100m it’s a fine piece of kit for the money. I’d pick another one up at this price if only to have a 2nd rear facing camera.

Image quality is terrible for number plates and also at night. That said, it may help with stuff like this :

Had an accident on Saturday it was the other guys fault, a hit and run. He/she came out from a side Rd and rammed into my husbands car and then sped off. Hubbys car careered into a concrete pole, whilst our 2 young children were in the back. Witnesses came forward to help us but no one saw the Registration plate of the other car.
The accident was in a factories area and a business kindly gave us the accidents CCTV footage but whilst it clearly shows the other drivers fault 100% the registration plate is blurry coz of water on the camera. Our children are traumatised, the insurance company says they are blaming us because they don’t know the reg of the other car and our several years of no claims bonus has gone down the drain. Not to mention several thousand pounds out of pocket for the next 5 years. Now I know why people have dash cams. 😔

Should ask Police to trace uninsured driver / car . They know how to get more cctv footage from people who wont be willing to share ig with you if you contact them directly.

This is why you need a decent dash cam that is able to easily record car number plates and not just blurry images like the one posted here.
I bought one of these cheap cameras identical to this a few years ago and it was crap.

Exactly. It's often hard enough to read plates with 1080p, let alone 720p. Why skimp with something this important, when a reasonable 1080p dashcam can be had for around a couple of tenners more?

The trouble is, even with a good cam it's not always going to be easy to read the plate of someone who T-bone's you. Ideally you need 4 cams, which is exactly what I've been considering doing recently.
Any suggestions guys for a good dash camera?
I use an app on my iphone, and a cradle to hold it. Not going to recommend any particular (and free) app as there are lots to chose from, and i didn't want one with all the extra bells and whistles (overlaid road maps, gps data etc) just a dash cam. Footage is good and all on my iphone. I regularly delete old journeys, so space isn't an issue.

For a good hidden dash cam that's hard to see from the outside of the car so won't get nicked you need a wedge shaped one placed high up at the top of the windscreen, Viofo A119 or Anker Roav are very good but cost about £59 and if you want a cheaper more obviously seen from the outside camera the Xiaomi Yi can be had for £30 all three cameras feature weekly on Amazon's deals of the day at the prices I've just mentioned and all three have massively superior picture quality compared with the 'toy' in this £5 deal.

How is a video camera with mediocre footage quality "working well"? That's the only job it has.

Amazingly a police car was parked about 20 feet from the accident site and witnessed everything (also a dashcam was fitted and facing towards the accident) but ignored the whole thing, and when one of the witnesses went over to him to ask for help for our family, he ambled over and said
"Go to your nearest police station and fill out a self report form".
My husband and I went the same day and the answer we got from the police was "We cannot do anything because you do not have a registration number and ask around for CCTV footage yourself, sorry we cannot help you".
I couldn't believe my ears, I then rang 101 and got the same response from them. I then said
"what about the policeman who witnessed it, his dashcam must have footage of it" and the reply I got was,
"We cannot trace that policeman or the police car" UNBELIEVABLE.

I got this particular dash cam years ago after a similar (athough far less serious) experience to yours in the police aspect. Now I have much better cameras both front and rear in my car, although this one served as a reliable witness on at least one occasion.

For a fiver there is no way this is any good. Don't waste ya money.
I called this piece of crap 'garbage' earlier and admin deleted my comment. Yet surely crap is a worse word than garbage? And crap was used in another comment above and is still there. Crap admin ide say.
viofo clones wedge shape goes for about £25 - 1080p - if you're going to go to all the trouble you may as well get a decent one. don't like these types as I would forget to fit it or take it off, my wedge one is fit and forget.
Has anyone found 1 i have phoned 6 shops from Bridgend to Neath right after this appeared none have them
Had one for around 4 years with out issue, play back on the pc is fine and reads plates fine, you need to make sure you setup the camera settings correct though as there is an Auto, night and day time settings.
I paid 20 for one that looks just like this on Tesco petrol fore court. It's a falcon. The image quality is ok for capturing footage but the problem is that it records at the wrong speed! Playback looks as though it's recorded at x2 speed! Problem is it makes it look as though I'm driving twice as fast!! Also, battery charge just doesn't work well. Seems's to stop charging after 5 mins. Wanted a dashcam with no power wire.
So it's going back to Tesco.
For some reason absolutely NONE of these bargains are EVER available in any store in Scotland!
Wonder if they still have those in store
