£75 Amazon / M&S / Argos Voucher if you buy £4 SunLife Life Insurance!

Worth a punt, £4 for a £75 voucher...

Yes, it's for over 50-s only. EDIT; YOU CAN APPLY IF YOU ARE 49-85.

Minimum monthly payment online is £4 (first payment free) and it seems you only have to pay it once, but might be wise to keep paying until you get your voucher!

Diarise a chase-up for your voucher one month after your first payment (first payment is free, so that's two months after taking the policy out).

Your contract terms state, "If you have chosen a welcome gift, it will be sent to you around one month from the day you pay your first premium. Because the first month’s premium is free, this may be two months into your policy."

EDIT; POLICY DOCUMENT JUST RECEIVED THRU POST STATES, "...... your £75 (voucher) will be sent out (17 days) after your first payment."

Will you get the money? Well, ultimately you can complain to the FCA if they don't pay, so safish I'd say. If SunLife don't pay, complain through their offical process first with threat of FCA.....

NB. The pre-contract blurb, which is INCORRECT! states, "Your gift card will be sent to you around one month from the day you pay your THIRD premium. Because the first month is free, this means it’ll be sent around FOUR months into your policy. If you take out a plan, you are entitled to one gift card only issued from SunLife. We reserve the right to change or withdraw this gift entitlement, or limit the total number of gifts issued per customer. We also reserve the right to not issue a gift to any customer who has previously held a SunLife policy and has subsequently cancelled that policy."

Update 23/2/17, just received letters for me and wife with Amazon gift codes for £75 each. Applied to our account and worked fine!

Sounds like grief on a stick.

Shame I'm not over 50 because this is easy money. Worst case, it is £12 paid out to get £75. That is a 625% return on investment. Yes, you might have to do a bit of chasing but it is worth it.

Think the FCA is a regulator, not an arbitrator. Suspect FCA will have zero interest other than obtaining the usual periodic number of complaints that SL has recorded from its customers. Compliants are likely to be happily received and actioned by Financial Ombudsman Service.

And how is this a deal?

Too much ballache for 75 squids if you ask me.

Cold for the aforementioned reasons..

Do they check your age for insurance? I would think yes and they probably run a credit check on you too as it is financial services. Any false information will then appear on your credit reference file. Not a risk worth taking (but excellent for anyone who is genuinely over 50!).

the odds on this £4 punt are far better than at Corals or Ladbrokes!

It seems like terms have been updated...."Your gift card will be sent to you around one month from the day you pay your third premium. i read that as you have to pay 3 premiums, then you get the voucher? first one is free though, so that's £8 to be paid?

Still a good deal tho

Having different ages showing on your credit search history is a good way of getting flagged on fraud analytics systems.

here's a tip, youngsters

don't lie on insurance stuff

lying about your age is particularly stupid

whilst fraud, that's not the issue - the issue is: it gets you a bad rep

that means a bad credit rating etc/ black marks/ no mortgage/ no loan/ no credit card

Finally, a deal for us oldies!! X)

I'd been sat here all day trying to justify £50 for an Amazon Echo Dot, now sorted!!

Cheers OP

just sign up an old aunt or uncle and if they pass away in the next 4 months everyone is quids in. hooray

doesnt work quite like that. Most policies dont kick in for 1 year, some companies its 2 yrs.

Its also worth noting that a lot of these companies share info and if you get the vouchers then cancel, you may have difficulty getting a policy later on.

As highlighted in original post, the pre-contract information states you have to make three payments, but the actual contract, i.e. what appears after you sign up and what you can save, states just ONE payment is required. The first monthly payment is free, so voucher should appear two months after signing up. Normally the contract terms are what can be enforced.....

Me and wife are over 50, so looking forward to £150 Amazon cash for the princely sum of £8! By spooky coincidence, this post is close to getting heat of -150 thanks to the Financial Deal scaredy-poo haters who presumably are content with their usual 15p-off a £1 pack of Haribo-type deals!

Woah, good thought! I don't remember any pre-contract questions along the line of, "are you in good health and not about to die"?!

However, best get said elderly relatives to wait two years before popping off.... Contract; "If you die within the first two years of taking out the Guaranteed Over 50 Plan the full cash sum will not be payable. Instead, all the premiums already paid plus half as much again would be paid to your estate"

Update: paperwork already received, 1st payment will be taken on 28th Feb and voucher will be sent out on 17th March!! So net cost, £4 as the OP said!

Just doing another one now for the old bird (wife!);)

Just had a look at the Direct Line one...policy must run for a minimum of 3 months...then you can wait upto 30 days for your voucher....so potentially 4 months @£5 a month before you'd want to cancel. Still a good return...tempting

Just having a look at the Direct Line one again, the £75 amazon voucher offer is for youngsters under 50 only....over 50's can only get an M&S voucher which is only £50 for a new customer as well (£75 if you have another policy)

Got my documents today, premium on 2 March and Amazon gift on 19th March. Total cost £4 !

Incorrect, that's only if you apply for the over-50's policy. Those who are over 50 are allowed to apply for the life cover that is NOT a specific over-50s policy and so get the £75 Amazon voucher. Application takes some time with lots of health questions. Thereafter you get email one month after application asking what gift you want. Two to three months after that you get the voucher code emailed. So appears 4x £6 = £24 to get the voucher for 75. I think return of 3:1 is worth it, so have done it. Yes math pedants, I know its a bit more than a 3:1 return!

RogerN

Will do the application at the weekend

Had my Amazon voucher today from Sun Life, only paid out £4, result !
