Useful comment. oO

I also grow my own veg and I drove a Hybrid for two years. Does that offset the CO2 on my potato purchase today?
Local Nisa in the midlands sells 25kg sacks for £3.49 and the potatos are good - Wilja potatos.
I cycled to Lidl on my bicycle and bought them. I was very hungry when I got home so I ate them all.
Should eat them raw as well to cut down on the carbon footprint.

What variety though? And what fertiliser did they use? They might have been £5, but if they were forced with nitrogen, I wouldn't even want to pay £5 for them. They'd just be watery rubbish.

In my teens, we used to grow the likes of Kerrs Pinks, Golden Wonder and British Queens and sell them for about £6 for a 4st bag....and they were lovely. Kerr's Pinks for boiling in skins (very flowery), Golden Wonder...yellowish colour and amazing chestnut flavour very good roasters and British Queens also very good for roasting.
The variety is Estima. I find these a good all-rounder.
At Lidl it is usually around £1 for 2.5kg of the highest British quality.
ummmm this pic is from my blog , recognise my house, strange seeing it here

I got these but they were Marfona variety . Kids said they were the best roasts we have ever done.. Also these are all big just right for jacket tatties...Tescos, Morrissons charge loads for bigger potatoes
Hmm, never heard of Estima or Marfona. I'm just waiting for the first Roosters to come back in, love 'em...
Morrisons have 5kg bags for £1-94 which is about the same price as these.

Estima have been around for years, Tesco used to stock estima a while back..

These really should be 56lb bags like they used to be years ago, lots of farms will sell you a full 56lb bag of spuds for around £5-£6 pound
For a small family though these are great..Good all round spuds for mashing, roasting and baking!
I didn't say they don't exist, just that I haven't heard of them - and I work in a greengrocer's with a wholesale suppliers' as well.

Also, potatoes by the sack are now sold in 25 *kilo* sacks, which are exactly 55 lbs. I assume that you meant they are approximately £6 for the sack, as £6/pound is no kind of deal. That's about how much we sell them for, depending on the variety.

Thanks for the info - just to point out, you saying that they are the second most popular potato variety *still* does not change the fact that I'd never heard of OR sold them before this post. Quite stubborn, arentcha? X)
which type do they use in Fish and chips chops?
Good alternative to nunchakus apparently.
