80% off + 25% off = 105% off?

Feels a tad "puffy" to me rather than bankruptcy. Bought a few items in store a few weeks back and my newish Crawford & Black A2 Sketch Pad has a great big £2 sticker on it. Now £4 less 25% so £3 = +50% on a few weeks back. Actually am impressed by the good value this store offers and it would be incredibly unfair, if based on only one item, I were to write that this today only offer strikes me as bs puff rip off. Please don't blacklist me TW cos I definitely appreciate you let me get my art stuff at crazy good prices x Oh yes meant to say - your staff in Haywards Heath branch are diamonds, genuinely really impressed by them.

Might be better in store but the online "up to" 80% sale is pretty poor.

Maybe you should get some maths books yourself :

£100- 80% off = £20, then 25% off that gives you £15 .... hohoho someone missed primary school maths lessons.

You quoted the wrong person silly billy!
80% off, or "up to" 80% off? The second is meaningless.

Look at the sign in the window.

"Spring clearance"
"Selected lines only"
"EVERYTHING [of the selected lines] MUST GO "

Not every retailer having a 'sale' is going bankrupt.

Chillax.

The signage in the store window the op shows is covering it, but it's up to 80% off as confirmed on their website. Agreed, quite meaningless. This sort of misleading advertising should be banned. A massive massive 80% in the window. And if you look at the teeny tiny letters you may see the "up to".

The Works have always marketed this way.

Not really because Works sales are like buses, you don't see one for a few weeks then 2 or 3 arrive in quick succession. In Chesterfield for example they moved store location so had a closing down sale for that store, opened the new store and had a new opening sale and now are on the spring sale. At the end of May there will be another one for the bank holiday then we'll get a summer sale, a back to school sale, autumn sale, Halloween sale, then Christmas sale along with various general sales.

Out of curiosity what exactly would you be banning?

I wouldn't be banning anything, as I'm only a random person on the Internet with an opinion. That's up to the powers that be.

However, if you read what I said again it was quite clear. The practice of creating very large signage in store with for example "80% OFF" in extra large font and then placing a tiny "up to" next to it. This is deliberately misleading.

Let's say there were a hypothetical 50 lines in the sale. They'll only perhaps have a very small amount those lines at 80% off, the rest falls into the "up to". So that could be 5%, 10% for example. Not quite the huge very imposing 80% seen in the shop window.

By “exactly” i mean would you ban advertising over a certain percentage off when less than a certain percentage of stock applies to the offer, or the “up to” relative font size, or when combined, or what. It's not exactly obvious what would be banned. In any case, I agree.

80% off RRP means that the item is probably overpriced by about 80%
