Popped into a spoons yesterday and watched the manager get extremely irate when some old dear necked her 9th latte..£1.05 she spent and she sat there for minimum of 3 and a half hours.
Cannot see how there is any profit in these as there were more coffee mugs dotted around than pint glasses.
Good fot getting served at the bar quicker though which has always been my main gripe about the spoons chain.
Throw a little expresso in just before you do the latte...livens it up a treat and fills cup perfectly.

A place to sip coffee is always good. Thanks.

Except when it's a pub chain owned by a Brexiteer who helped fund and spread the lies. Or when it's a pub thats killing off local pubs, or even worse independent coffee outlets.

Even the above aside, this is a duplicate of this thread imo

Is it killing off local pubs by offering a cheaper, cleaner (Toilets normally good) alternative?

I know what you mean does free the bar up quicker, I think a lot people tend to have food also when having a coffee for its a lot cheaper specially when I use to spend £2 just on filter coffee in Starbucks and now I can have a proper caffeine fix before work and as many as I like plus coffee is quite nice
Any food offers?

Varies depending on where you live I expect. I've always found weatherspoons to be dirty, rough places full of scrotes with distinctly average beer and awful food. Not that i've set foot in one since their owner started campaigning for Brexit mind and not that I ever will again

@boothylad there is a difference between having an opinion as many do, and overtly advertising the fact in your pubs (posters/drinks mats/offers promoting it) and donating millions of pounds to the campaign. Thats quite a rare situation and he can join Mr Dyson et al on my own boycott list.

Each to their own of course nothing stopping anyone else drinking in there.

Do you quiz the owner of every establishment their political beliefs before you use them?do you ask the owner of every independent coffee shop whether they voted brexit or no brexit..its a cup of coffee not a brexit debate.I agree most spoons pubs are rough and ready but your arguement is full of contradictions.your chatting bubbles arnt you buddy

Don't be such a snowflake, Only the gullible believed the lies. Funnily enough the world hasn't imploded, nor has WW3 broke out which is a relief ;).

Sadly pubs have struggled since the smoking ban and credit crunch, They can't compete with them, A bit like how supermarkets have taken over, You can buy virtually anything from Asda now. That's just the way it is. It's a shame that coffee shops have taken a hit but you're looking at £2.00+ for a cup of often crap instant coffee in some cases.
You also get a spoon free!
Visited a local Wetherspoons yesterday; sat in the beer garden with my dog but was approached by the manager to tell me dogs were not welcome at all Wetherspoons. I guess they've lost my custom, along with many other dog owners.

Well, I know there's a lot more than just filling a cup with coffee to take into consideration (i.e. the electricity for the machine, the coffee cup itself, etc...), but it usually only costs about a penny to pour the coffee into the cup.

But still, I can understand why the manager would be a bit annoyed that people are sitting around with cups rather than pint glasses.

There is more atmosphere in a council meeting about bins.

Sounds good for cheap coffee though. Just don't expect anyone to smile.

If you hate waiting at the bar just order using the app.Always get served at table faster than at bar anyway.

pedant aert!!

yes the same pub chain but the op has taken the trouble to look at the prices in the pub and post them. Gets my thanks as will pop in for cappuccino. Also like San peligrino and 89p is cheaper than you can buy a single can for anyway where I live.

Anyone seen the wine prices?? If I go in will post more.

I think it was £2.29 or £2.49 for a glass of house wine but don't quote me on that I'll find out in the morning when I get my daily coffee before work
Just seen website with op's link. Unlimited coffees I was expecting to go for, but website states offer is for "takeaway coffees and teas". So there isn't unlimited hot drinks, since JDWetherspoons give one hot drink and expect you to leave premises with just that - no refills on hot drinks 😡

Glad to hear it

Nobody wants your filthy mutt sniffing around while they are trying to eat. So unhygienic. Tie it outside before you go into an eating establishment

What's smearing about it? I try not to get involved in brexit debates because 1 - I didn't vote, 2 - the general public get most of their unreliable data from tabloids with an agenda and 3 - they don't fully understand the implications of leaving the single market and the EU's regulatory frameworks (bearing in mind these have been in construct for 40 years) so discussing the merits or yes or no with them is a waste of time.

1. The owner is a confessed brexiter, is he not? 2. His pubs are competition for brewery ran pubs in much the same way large supermarkets are to places like the coop. 3. See coffee chains, etc. for point three. Not saying either of these are right or wrong, it's another topic for debate but you can't argue they're quantifiable facts.

Dogs are not allowed in Wetherspoons. If you saw a dog allowed it was very much the exception not the rule.

Most of us just want to have a pint not be bombarded with political messages when we enter a pub.

Wetherspoons are the worst for this, especially that bloody beer mat campaign and that tabloid esque rag he calls 'news'.

They are also normally pretty far removed from what I would call a pub. No jukebox, no pool table, no live sports, rarely a pub quiz or a draw, no karaoke, no live bands, no open mics and fairly irregular staff too. The list just goes on and on.

Yes they have a place, they offer cheap beer to the masses. They only account for about 5% of establishments but the massive floor space means they often kill off local pubs who admittedly are already under a lot of pressure from pubcos like Enterprise and Punch Taverns.

The only very good thing that Wetherspoons has ever done is support the growth of microbreweries but then it was actually the government who were largely responsible for their growth because of changes to how beer duty is calculated, the Labour government Tim Martin used to do a lot of moaning about.

Some dogs are more hygienic than the humans. Why do people go for a pee then pretend to wash their hands? Clearly they know they should but still prefer to smear p1ss on the door handles for the next person.... And this isn't just wetherspoons
