Edit:
- Can be formatted to work on other devices (Please check your device can accept 8TB and also been made aware on PS4 they may not like the fact it is a usb hub so may require swapping drive to a standard external caddy
-Is apparently a Barracuda Pro tweaktown.com/rev…tml

Hard disks are predominately storage-only now anyway. And the difference between a 5400 (slow) and 7200 (slightly-less-slow) disk is so minimal when the next performance gap is an SSD, it practically doesn’t even matter.

According to this it's a Barracuda Pro but reduced warranty from 5yrs to 1yr.

Yes - the Xbox is virtually a PC anyway (with custom firmware). You might need to format it again but probably not even that.

I think the serial numbers are logged with Seagate that they were sold with enclosure so the warranty (2yrs actually review was wrong) only applies to entire unit. Not that it makes much difference unless opening the enclosure voids the warranty which it may.
I could be wrong but almost always works like that for enclosure drives.
Still an absolute steal for 8TB drives anyway

Yes that should - I wouldn’t know! I wish I had time for gaming, I am trying though, I just got myself an LG 29” ultrawide for £150 and a Vega 56 for £389 both from Amazon, so if that doesn’t ignite the spark again, not much will

I know the feeling Uni student here resisting the urge to game whilst studying bought a backlog of games in the steam sale yesterday

Thanks for the answers about its usability. Now I'm just looking for the warranty before I take the dive. I can't find that information on the Amazon page. A follow through to a Seagate link seems to hint it's 2 years Warranty but not sure. Anyone know what the warranty is? or better a link or pointer to where I can get that information? Thanks in advance.

not sure been informed it is one year however I will be breaking them open to get the drives out so will void warranty... You can use it as they are just I personally don't trust harddrive enclosures. Probably nothing wrong with it just I used to work in computer repairs and have a feeling half of failed hdd's were because of poorly made enclosures causing irregular power spikes

Any possibility of using this with PS4?

it's 2 years. Seagate link on Amazon page is correct

seagate.com/fil…pdf

Thanks for the response groppo. The reason why I thought it was two years was because of the below text from Seagate website:

"The warranty period for your product is the length of time indicated as part of your product packaging. Please see your product box or quick start guide for the applicable warranty period for your product. You also may go to seagate.com/ret…ty/ to obtain the length of your warranty period for Seagate, Maxtor or LaCie branded product and to determine whether there are any usage-based limitations. If you purchased the product in a European Economic Area Member State, you will receive the longer of your applicable product warranty period or two (2) years. The warranty period for all components other than the main product is ninety (90) days from the documented date of your purchase or two (2) years if purchased in a European Economic Area Member State."

That to me says until we've brexitted our of Europe, we should be covered by 2 years warranty .. mind you we come out in March 2019 .. which means we're really only warranty covered for 1.5 years then.

it should work... worst case scenario is that ps4 doesn't see it so you would need a pc and some know how or online guides on how to format for PS4 .... best and most likely case is the PS4 sees the drive and formats it for you. will probably take a while though being 8TB so be patient

Decent price! A drive is a drive, it'll format on anything that supports 8TB drives.

Thanks mate

I've got an existing 2tb ext USB drive I use with my Xbox for my games library. How easy is it to port them over? Do I copy the contents from one drive to the other? How's it going to work, any help much appreciated

kingp1n8 m ago

Thanks mate

It doesn't as its a "hub" and has a USB manager sat in between it and the hard drive itself. The PS4 requires a direct HDD connection. This one won't work but the WD 8TB drive at about the same price will for PS4

Cheers. Just bought one. I'm always in need of more space, and from the tweaktown review, the HD inside is 7200 RPM. Good enough for me!

Any good for expanding storage for Macbook?

I've got one of these in black, had in about 6 months and it's been excellent

I use it connected to the smart tv purely for storing tv and music files, it's great

Can't really comment on speeds because it's not an issue for our needs

Great product and 45 pounds cheaper than I paid

In my Basket ready to buy, thanks.

You sure about that? I thought a firmware that was released not too long ago allowed you to use external drives to store games?

Voted hot, a great price worth snapping it up at, especially if it does have a Barracuda Pro inside as suggested above.

Voted hot but not as good as last year's deal. Not even close

Just go to System, then select storage, go right to 'manage storage' and select the 2tb drive it will then give you the option to Transfer, go there and select the target drive 8tb, just tick Select all and it will copy it all across.

You can also set your Capture location from there,so once you have copied all the files onto the 8tb you could format the old 2tb usb back to standard non Xbox format which would then allow you to capture up to a Hour of Game play. (Or you can just leave it set to internal drive).

decent price for 8tb at the moment. wish the £120 amazon deal would return

Three of those would be a perfect upgrade for the 3 x 3Tb WD Reds in my home server. My wife would kill me though, which is fair enough as I don't need it. 16Tb ZFS though, it just feels so right.

Its no good for anyone that wants to take the drive out and use it for cctv purposes etc. 5400 to 7200 definately isnt that marginal, otherwise this would be 7200. Agreed both are slow in co.parison to ssd though.

Some CCTV used to buy all my old hdd's of me he seemed to think it didn't make a difference then again they would have been low budget home installations. Yeah SSD for the OS is a must just I didn't fancy having to remove games to install new ones or have many small hdd inside my PC!!!
