Wrexham and Shropshire are offering £9 train tickets from London to Birmingham (actually Tame Bridge Parkway - between Birmingham and Walsall and handy for the M6 and getting picked up / dropped off - much easier than New Street anyway)

They're a new company so there are only 5 trains daily, but there do seem to be loads of tickets for next week and all the way up to 13th December.

Tickets are either emailed to you (just print them off) or sent as an SMS text to your mobile.

Trains go from Marylebone rather than Euston but that's no big deal.

Yes, you're right, but I found £9 tickets both London to Birmingham and Birmingham to London. Sorry for any confusion

Thanks - I booked!

Chiltern railways does £5 text ticket from London Marylebone to Birmingham Moor Street and Birmingham Snow Hill if you just wanted to go to Brum

Chiltern Railways and Wrexham and Shropshire = one and the same.

They both go from London Marylebone nicer than Euston and less crowded
this is a great deal - there's catering on the train too but its a short train so no Q for your coke tea coffee beers and the staff are nicer

its also a 2 hour + journey compared to virgin trains 1 hour.

Fab!!, but more important, what's the food like???????:w00t:

Recently had to pay £123 for a flexible return from Brum to London. I hope the train companies rot in hell!

A return ticket on Chiltern Railways from Birmingham to London is far far less than that.

No need to pay anywhere near that much. Just split you tickets!

Er... exaggeration?
I think 1hr 30 ish is about as good as it gets.

Chiltern text tickets every time for me, despite the longer journey

Booked my Birmingham ticket on ]national express (Trains)
Apparently, they use the virgin trains for this route.
But when I checked the same route and time on the ]virgin trains website, they quoted £10 more!

BTW Here's a great site that displays all stops on the train/coach route you intend to take.
]transportdirect.info
This site can sort results by the cheapest fare or fastest route and it even plots your entire journey and route with stops on a map! http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/255016/9-train-tickets-from-london-to-birm/../../255867/1-train-ticket/images/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif
