£9 London to York/Edinb & more starts Friday

From Friday 1 May ticket booking site The Trainline is offering 350,000 off-peak, single fares at £9 anywhere along the National Express East Coast train line. This includes London, Peterborough, Doncaster, Leeds, York, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow & Inverness.

You can book between Fri 1 May and midnight Tues 5 May for travel between Monday 1 June and Sunday 26 July 2009. To book the ticket simply visit the The Trainline* from Friday.

The further you're travelling, the bigger the savings. For example at the time of writing the cheapest ticket to Aberdeen from London was £54 one way so find a £9 fare and that's saving of £45.

Be aware though, you can't use any other discounts or railcards with this offer, so do compare the cheapest ticket available with your railcard to the £9 offer. When you book the ticket online you'll get a voucher which you must print out and travel with. Availability between Thurs 2 July and Sunday 5 July on trains is limited and the offer isn't available on shorter, less busy routes.

That's a shame, as we're planning on 2 seperate return train trips throughout May, so it would of been quite a saving from the normal £30+ each way trip.

Good deal though for anyone travelling in a couple months time, as we will probably take advantage of that at some point too.

Thank you

looks good cheers OP

will vote when it shows sale prices, bit of a bummer as we wanted to go to scotland in late May

thanks for posting - going to see take that in the big smoke in July!

Think the sale prices are all £9 - wherever you are going from / to as long as its on the National Express EAst Coast train line.

lol....hot for me

Worth a punt.

hot from me but be aware - don't phone these guys cus they'll just mess up your order.

I booked via quidco some tickets but I put a station too early by mistake so I called them asking if they can be amended, they said no and that they'll have to book some more tickets for extra 15 minutes on the same train. They sent the wrong tickets so I called them again to complain and said I'll have to buy more and claim a refund. I wish I just rebooked them online as it'd of cost almost the same assuming I get the refund and I wouldn't have to spend 35 minutes on a expensive number talking to them about how I wish to stay on the same train for 15 minutes longer.

I voted hot though, but I know for future, if I make a mistake booking tickets - just rebook them and try to sell them at the train station or something. Their call centre is worst than useless.

Sounds like a good deal to me! Might book some tickets in advance!

Thanks

Thanks may be worth booking a few dates...it might kick start me into doing something with the kids in summer.

great thanks for the heads up xx

true but sales not on till the 1st so they wont show and you cant book till then

Great Deal, wish it was on for August too

Haha I've just cottoned on that this is for rail tickets and not the coach!

Was wondering why Liverpool wasn't included but we're Virgin trains instead.

Good deal!

Can't see any £9 tickets yet...

nothing on there yet... going to sleep and check again in the morning I suppose

Sleep is for wimps...

This better not be like a Hoxton Hotel £1 rooms sale! Everyone goes on and no-one finds anything!

Dont seem to be working any more that gadget, I get the following msg;

Error parsing module spec:
Not a properly formatted file
missing xml header

Anyone care to post a code they've used previously as I believe they can be used more than once and arent restricted to one person...

A full search finds only two references to this offer BTW - this post, and the MSE "news" of it that this post has derived it from.

Suspect MSE got it wrong...

Offer is definitely real, got an email from Trainline yesterday advertising it [see ]here].

I stand corrected!

still cant find any fares at this price though.

Cheapes fare I get offered for London to Leeds is 14.60 - so doesn't appear to be working at the moment.

Ive tried Newcastle to london and newcastle - doncaster for all dates and nothing available!

They are on the National Express website (not Trainline)..... there's a link on the homepage

No problem, i generally use the direct sites anyway...... think we may have crashed the server now !!!!! :whistling:

i can see more now, just not a convenient time going out.... 7:23am! (and i still have to get from nottingham to grantham before that.... train gets in from nottingham to grantham at 7:22... tight! doubt they'd hold the train up for us.)
