Based on a cutting-edge new architecture, Vertex 2 Solid State Drives deliver
unprecedented performance while maintaining an affordable storage solution for
early adopters looking to update their systems with the latest technology. OCZ
designed the Vertex 2 to excel in both sequential and random read/write rates to
take your PC or notebook productivity to the next level, featuring superb 4k
random writes up to 50,000 IOPS to give a performance edge over the previous
generation. Using the latest controller technology, Vertex 2 not only provides a
faster, more responsive PC experience, but promotes cooler, quieter, and more
energy efficient conditions compared to traditional mechanical hard drives.
With solid performance coupled with supreme reliability, the Vertex 2 is designed
to push the envelope in storage technology for those who place a premium on
speed, reliability and efficiency, but demand the affordability of MLC flash
memory. Built with SATA 3Gb/s, the Vertex 2 Series easily integrates into
today’s mobile and desktop platforms and features TRIM support to optimize
performance over the drive’s lifespan as the ultimate Windows 7 notebook or
desktop upgrade.

Serious Question below as this is new technology for me:

What makes this better than the normal 2.5" SSD that's always on here? I know it's a different size, but can't you get the 128gb for around this price at 2.5" with a converter bracket.

The size makes no difference. The vertex 2 SSD's are really fast. 285MB/s READ up to 275MB/s WRITE, 50K IOP.
A 128GB around this pricepoint is probably not as fast.
For example, the 128GB Kingston SSD has a read speed of 100MB/s and a Write of 80MB/s .

Gonna stick one on my Christmas wish list, hopefully the missus reads it for once and doesn't get me man perfume.

Am i the only one in thinking that 90GB is a really weird storage capacity number for a Hard Drive

Oh I wish I had the money for one of these

Prices are getting a bit better, I paid a bit more than this for my 60GB OCZ one for my OS and that was for a sata2 one. Ill consider these for storage when the £/GB drops a little bit more.

The strange numbers on SSD's are because of the built in redundancy. A 30GB ssd will probably have 32GB of storage, but 2Gb will be used to replace any cells as they go bad.
This greatly increases the lifespan and reliability of SSD's.
