This came out last Thursday - it's the sequel in a sequel trilogy, and pretty long-awaited if you're into this sort of thing.

Pullman wrote the His Dark Materials trilogy back in the 90s (which is excitingly about to be on the BBC!) and then the first Book of Dust (La Belle Sauvage) came out a couple of years ago. This instalment is subtitled 'The Secret Commonwealth'

Best price I've seen, and is available in-store if you want to avoid delivery charges (which start from £1 but depend on your time slot)

Description

The second volume of Philip Pullman's The Book of Dust sees Lyra, now twenty years old, and her daemon Pantalaimon, forced to navigate their relationship in a way they could never have imagined, and drawn into the complex and dangerous factions of a world that they had no idea existed. Pulled along on his own journey too is Malcolm; once a boy with a boat and a mission to save a baby from the flood, now a man with a strong sense of duty and a desire to do what is right.

Theirs is a world at once familiar and extraordinary, and they must travel far beyond the edges of Oxford, across Europe and into Asia, in search for what is lost - a city haunted by daemons, a secret at the heart of a desert, and the mystery of the elusive Dust.

Same at Amazon I think?

Still looks to be £12.30 there for me, for the physical copy?
I've read the 'his dark materials' trilogy. Spectacular.

Can anyone tell me if the 'book of dust vol 1&2' is what I should read next? Or were there any others before this?

Yep, Book of Dust vol 1 (La Belle Sauvage) first, and then this one next.

It is kind of unusual, as Belle Sauvage is set 10 years before His Dark Materials, and The Secret Commonwealth is set 10 years after. No idea when Book of Dust vol 3 will be focussed on!

Awesome, thanks!

Currently reading The King Killer Chronicles. Def recommend!
I want to get this for my Mum but it’ll be too heavy for her to hold. Does anybody know how long after a hardback release the small format paperbacks come out

Book of Dust 1 - La Belle Sauvage is really a prequel to "His Dark Materials", Lyra is literally a baby.
Book of Dust 2 - Set some 20 years after La Belle Sauvage, so around 10yrs after "His Dark Materials"

Thank you for your reply.
That’s a Christmas gift out of the window. Although probably well timed for her birthday next year. ^_^

I'm part way through A Wise Man's Fear. Really good! As good as the first for sure.
