The first album by the Norwegian trio of singer Morten Harket, songwriter Pal Waaktaar and keyboardist Mags will forever be known as the album that contains the intoxicating "Take On Me", one of the most famous and enduring "one-hit wonders" of the '80s. However, HUNTING HIGH AND LOW actually contains a second US Top 40 hit, "The Sun Always Shines On TV". In addition, even after those songs ceased to receive airplay, A-Ha continued a long and successful career in Europe and elsewhere.
Besides the two singles, the album contains the haunting title track, "Living A Boy's Adventure Tale", which comes across as a keyboard-heavy Scandinavian version of early U2, and the quirky "The Blue Sky", an arresting showcase for Harket's piercing falsetto. HUNTING HIGH AND LOW shows that there's much more to A-Ha than their memory in common pop history suggests.

Great blast from the past! Cheers heat added! :-)

I bought this album on LP and on Cassette in the 80's absolutely superb, Living a boys adventure tale is the best song on it.

I LOVED Morten Harket:w00t::w00t::w00t:

Damn right!

There was a planned "anniversary" edition of this a few years ago, remember seeing it listed on Play.com at the time but alas it got pulled and never saw the light of day. I keep holding off from buying the standard version!!

Same here , plus the 1st ever concert I went to !!! I loved Mags - I remember he came on stage skateboarding.

Oh to be young again and have hunky mens piccies plastered all over your bedroom wall !!

Jo

First album I bought when I was 10. Worth it alone for "Here I stand and face the rain".

agreed, not one hit wonders. But what were the other hits - I remember take on me and sun always shines....but, unfortunately that's it! They seemed to be around for yonks at the time too.

Damn right!

Remember Cry Wolf? You Are The One?

Edit: I just watched the promo for You Are The One on Youtube! Check out the sailors uniforms!

A great album.

But if they were 'one hit wonders' what was that 'one hit' exactly? Take on Me? Or the follow up that went to Number One?

A quick check actually reveals they had 18 UK Top 40 hit singles, and 9 Top 40 albums (inc 2 Greatest Hits compilations), between 1985 and 2006 - so that's a 21 year 'flash in the pan'!

love these always have always will

Couldn't resist sneaking off to Youtube to listen to Manhattan Skyline

Wow, fantastic memories of this one that I have still got on LP with no turntable. Very tempted...

Train Of Thought was a big hit too + Living Daylights, Crying In the rain etc.

I thought "Morten Harkett" was a small town in Dorset where Barry Mung lives?!
Anyway, Aha are still very much active, and are due to release a brand new album on 12th March...

Ahhh no, that's Haughton Market!

Their Minor Earth Major Sky album is good too.

good price if you like A-ha, voted hot

They are now what I'd describe as almost a Norweigan version of U2.

Wow, what a an absolute blast from the past! Remember seeing MH in the valley gardens in Harrogate when they played at the Eurovision Song Contest in Harrogate! Just going through all the songs on YouTube now:) Ordered the album for the *ahem" Mrs, no seriously!
Heat & rep added, nice one.

Headlines and Deadlines the Hits of Aha @ £4.98 on Amazon is a better buy awaesome album, all the hits from Hunting High and Low and more.

BTW They definitely were not "one hit wonders" they even had a Bond film song (Living Daylights) also on the above "Best of" album.

Oh man, single malt & a ha...even started hunting old "The Alarm" vids on youtube now I'm feeling all melancholy!

Thirded for Minor Earth Major Sky.....a CD I picked up by chance a few years ago and wondered why I hadn't heard any of the outstanding tracks on it....superb.

I bought one of their last albums Analogue, which I must say is fantastic. Have been a fan since the 80's. Even got to see them live. I was in love with Mags back then. *wistful sigh*. They are still huge in Europe, and have released many albums. Strange how they couldn't maintain it here. Their music has moved on with the times, but still as good imo.
