Synopsis
A century before A GAME OF THRONES, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros…

A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS compiles the first three official prequel novellas to George R.R. Martin’s ongoing masterwork, A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE.

Before Tyrion Lannister and Podrick Payne there was Dunk and Egg.

A young, naïve but courageous hedge knight, Ser Duncan the Tall towers above his rivals – in stature if not experience. Tagging along with him is his diminutive squire, a boy called Egg – whose true identity must be hidden from all he and Dunk encounter: for in reality he is Aegon Targaryen, and one day he will be king. Improbable heroes though they be, great destinies lie ahead for Dunk and Egg; as do powerful foes, royal intrigue, and outrageous exploits.

A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS brings together for the first time the first three official prequel novellas to George R.R. Martin’s ongoing masterwork, A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE, set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory.

Featuring more than 160 illustrations by Gary Gianni, one of the finest fantasy artists of our time, this beautiful volume will transport readers to the world of the Seven Kingdoms in an age of bygone chivalry.

Hope it helps someone.

Bit harsh. I'm not sure the guy can be accused of selling his soul - he's no spring chicken so any wonga he got is unlikely to increase his quality of life significantly or for a long time. He was most likely simply asked "would you be OK sharing your spectacular stories with a new, large and mostly appreciative audience who are maybe a little too lazy to read your lengthy books?"
Granted, the last season of the TV show was the biggest let-down since finding out Santa isn't real, but I thoroughly enjoyed everything before that.

Regardless of what you think of the tv series, these are great books in my opinion, loved the Dunk & Egg series.
Just wish GRRM would hurry up and get The Winds of Winter out now...

Free, that will do me
Great deal, the Dunk & Egg stories are brilliant.
Looking at the cover, I thought this was a book about Rovers
THESE are the characters I want to see in a spin-off series! Excellent novellas and well worth £1.99.

I like to be harsh.
I enjoyed this book. It is worth a read!

I just hope they never become a TV show. Not sure how the HBO series has effected my perception of the future books - i just hope they end a little different / there is a more thought out ending to both the ice king and the iron throne plots.

Isn’t it shelved? Like you’ve put it away on a shelf? Or have I always been saying it incorrectly?!

I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest that 'shelled' has been used as a pun, given that one of the main characters is called Egg.
If I'm right then matwalaboy simply cracked a bad yolk, poached from a barnful of previous egg puns.
Omelette-ing this one go though, as it has clearly scrambled poor Parfy's bonnet, and you both seem like good eggs.
