This is an amazing deal - in my local university bookstore it's about £50 for the same box set (with the Westeros map).

I already have the first three books so won't be indulging, but have some heat anyway.

Wish he'd hurry up and finish this series. I'm all for artistic integrity, but only 2 books in the last 12 years is taking the P.

I got this deal for £17 from tesco delieverda while thanks to hotukdeals, but this is still hot.

Excellent books and good deal - heat added.

The real worry is what will happen to the TV series once it catches up with the books

We either get no ending or a rushed ending, Martin himself thinks there may be 3/4 more books before he can finish the story.. at his current rate that means the books will be finished in 2035

Good deal - got this exact set - heated.

Re comments above - sounds like he's doing a Stephen King with the Dark Tower series

Heat added. As a long time fan I think the Tv series is starting to suffer from so many characters demanding attention just as the books did. A lot of people are going to have to die or we'll be watching this until thy kingdom come

The show's producers are already talking about how the show will end after seven series (rather than wander off into the wilderness like the books have). They've been pretty fearless so far in adapting the books, hacking out excess material and characters, so chances are they'll do a nice satisfactory resolution to the TV show that will be independent of where the book series goes.

Raymond Chandler was asked how he felt about Hollywood ruining his books. he always said, 'The books aren't ruined. They're right there on the shelf.' GRRM probably feels the same way.

Haven't you read the books? About half-way through the characters start dropping off like flies. Just wait for the bit when (spoiler cut here)

The real danger here is Author himself could drop out of this world before he could tie up loose ends...

He's been quoted as saying there'll be 2 more books, taking the total up to 7. There's a chance they may be split into 2 volumes like previous paperback releases, of course. Last I heard the next one was due next year sometime, but of course, there's no gaurantee of that!

I've not seen the TV show, but I lost interest completely mid-book 2, and as I recall never got back to it - Something thats only ever happened with a handful of books (Or indeed, series)... It seemed in my mind to replace suspence and trepidation with doom, gloom, misery and 'I just killed off the character you were rooting for, for no particular reason'. I've no argument against killing off major characters - If done well, it can add immensely to the story, but the way it was done - Repeatedly, was... Yawn inducing.

I read it somewhere on wikipedia saying that GRRM has told the producers the plot after current books, in case he dies before he could finish the book.

I added a rule costing 32p to put the price over £25 for the free delivery but it still wouldn't give me the option. Has anyone else tried that and got it to work?

are there offers for ebook versions anywhere?

But the books are massive, 2, 3 or even 4 times the length of some other books - so one a year is not bad considering. I think Martin is going to slow down though due to his involvement in the TV show.

I got these for £19.99 on amazon before xmas in a lightning deal, was a great bargain for a great set of books presented very nicely in a box. Even at this price it's a helluva deal. Heat added.

The TV series is great but its too slow for none fans. There are just too many characters and the plot lines take forever to setup. I just hope HBO have the patience and deep pockets enough to see it through.

Only saw the first series last week. I don't agree with your statement, it's a good pace (not read the books yet). Fairly glad the most interesting character will probably be one of the most important. A really nice character arc there.

Fantastic if complex story, HBO have done well in their filming of it. I believe that George Martin has been involved in the script writing and I also heard that he has left a precis of how he sees the story ending.
Great read and yes like everyone else I wish he would finish it.

Possibly slightly selfish but it'd be nice if the books and TV series could somehow end at the same time. I really don't want to see how it all ends when the last book comes out as somebody somewhere is bound to spoil it. I don't plan to read the books until the TV series ends, there's enough to take in as it is..

Got this for £29.99 just after Christmas but still heat added. Great series, I love them

Not sure which character you mean.. but believe me, there is a good chance they will die soon

Brilliant books, but been waiting more years than I care to remember for Martin to finish this off! - Recommend everyone to Robert Jordan's 'The Wheel of Time' at least they had the good grace to finish the series after he sadly passed away!
