Thanks, I'll have to join AA.

I'm drinking far too much alcohol at the minute and having many break downs!

Great
I'll put my parents address a mile away as my home address to get home breakdown cover included at my real home once my current £21/yr cover runs out.

How does this compare to the autoAid breakdown cover - the latter always gets great reviews?

Don't forget 20% off at Mitchell & Butler establishments (no blackout days). We're partial to a bit of Miller & Carter

I joined this afternoon for £39 and have received the confirmation email from the AA & a tracking confirmation email from Quidco for £15.40.
Could get declined but so far it looks good.

Wrong thread I think, this is for vehicle breakdown similar (but better) to the RAC.

I have auto aid far better features, used them twice , pay upfront and claim back, works fine.
Also its the driver and spouse covered any car.

I can't comment on the quality of AA breakdown, but I have been with AutoAid for a few years now and it is great, the cover is for you not your vehicle and includes free cover for your spouse, and home start. Even if just covering yourself, AA is £59 (I just checked to see if it would be cheaper as I am due to renew soon). I have broken down at work, on the road and less than a mile from home and every time they either got me running or recovered me to the garage of my choice (from right near my house once) with no problems. They scrapped the pay at roadside and claim back system so it is as simple as any other breakdown cover now. The only flaw I have with AutoAid is the wait times, one of my breakdowns was a two hour wait (luckily I was at work so went inside to keep warm).

They scrapped the pay up front over a year ago (possibly two years ago?).

The Guardian on AutoAid (their service is for two people): "AutoAid is one of the cheaper providers that Money readers should consider. For £43.31 you and a partner are covered to claim while driving any car. Service reports are good, and this is arguably the best option if you are looking for affordable cover."
theguardian.com/mon…dds

This is very basic recovery only to a nearby garage not home.Autoaid is far far better than this.Just a waste of money this.

If your an existing AA or RAC member who's renewal is approaching give them a call and tell them your thinking of leaving because you really can't afford to renew.
I've got half price cover for the last 5 years by doing this but admittedly I've never called them out during this period so if you need them regularly they may refuse a discount.

Don't you mean accidents?

If you have any clubcard vouchers building up you can buy RAC cover with them. Got RAC Roadside & Recovery for £32 worth which seems pretty good considering I didn't even know I had them.

Edit: You have to buy it through the clubcard site.

Same here. Been with Autoaid for last 10 years.

Has anyone clarified the cashback situation with this or is it voted hot assuming it's £39?

For those who plan on going to Europe, consider using the German company ADAC. they include cover for the UK and apparently use the AA. No limit on length of stay in Europe, driver is covered on any vehicle, no vehicle age restriction etc. Single driver is about 84 Euros, with partner 109 euros. You have to call them if you live in the UK and ask for English operator.

The only thing I'd probably check is whether they are good in times of high demand. I'm sure they are fine. However, I remember when GreenFlag was the main challenger to AA and RAC. They were very good, but the problem was that they used a lot of contractors. At Xmas, when they had better things to do, service levels dropped significantly. I only know this because I used to work as a trolley porter at the supermarkets so that when customers are waiting for breakdown services you kinda get an idea of response times.

If you take out a premium bank account you normally get this addition as part of your £5 a month payment, along with Travel insurance, Mobile Phone insurance etc etc

I got rac cover earlier this year through quidco, but they didnt pay out. I am in the process of appealing. Anyone else get declined?

Anyone know if the AA cover for longer trips to Europe?
Or a similar one to compare the ADAC to

I would check the details on any bank account.I think you'll find most will only take you to a local garage not all the way home,Which in my opinion is useless.

Never thought of that but I'm there a lot less than I'm at home and my dad's mechanically savvy.

Nationwide is £4 a month post interest nationwide.co.uk/pro…its. Halifax is £12 a month if you transfer £750 a month but you earn £125 for switching at the minute bringing the fee down to £19 for the year.

That's fraudulent, and whilst unlikely you'll get caught out, if you do you'll find it difficult to get any type of insurance in the future. Insurers do all sorts of checks these days and I wouldn't take the risk.

This kind of breakdown is ok as long as whatever's wrong with your car for it to stop in the first place can be fixed at the side of the road.

if you're 100 miles away from home then you'd at least want to be took back home with the car and all your passengers.

I wouldn't have the very minimum cover. false economy.

remember folks cashback is not guaranteed a point I missed earlier this year when I cancelled my existing AA membership and got a brand new AA membership via Quidco thinking I'd get £40 cash back.

all the reviews on quidco and elsewhere were speaking enthusiastically about AA being a frequent top payer of cash back.

well I was the unlucky one, I didn't get any cash back I queried it with quidco customer service and they informed me that it simply got declined by AA and that AA don't have to give them any reasons.

so remember cashback is never guaranteed.

Very good deal. I've got a Toyota, so probably won't need it but this will be ideal for all the Range Rovers, Renaults, BMWs, Mercs & Audi's out there up and down the country you see broken down on the hard shoulder.

Actually you'll find Toyotas have punctures too one day. All those days driving such a dreary car for nothing ...

Yup - they all do. Doesn't mean you'll be paid.

Good find op, thank you!
