It's a good price for the AC Ryan and one that looks like it will be supporting ]YAMJ soon. Easy to setup, just plug and play.

However if you have an hour of your time, an USB stick or USB cd/dvd drive then get a ]Acer Revo 3600 for £145 and install ]XBMC Live on it. It stomps all over the purpose built firmwire driven boxes thanks to it's looks, ability and integrated scrapping. The additional plugins i.e. youtube, Iplayer, Apple trailers etc just make even better.
Built in wifi, 160GB drive; buy a HP usb MCE remote & receiver from ebay and you will have the best looking media center available.
The lack of built in optical audio might be a problem for some (get a usb one), but the flexibility to install underneath XBMC, bittorrent clients, NZB clients, RSS scrappers etc make it an impressive media solution.

I originally got a xtreamer (a 2.5" drive AC Ryan clone) but am very glad I switched to xbmc.

does the acer revo have a fan inside - if so, is it loud?

It does, but I have never heard mine. I suppose, if you listen to classical music with quiet parts or are watching a film with a silent bit, then you might just hear it. I haven't seen it mentioned as a problem in any of the forums I have visted for getting the Revo set up.

That being said, this is a thread about the AC Ryan...
