Recently released Google Chrome extension/ Firefox Add-on that allows you to circumvent the country blocks that prevents users from accessing the sites.

Worth a shot as you can visit those sites without any limitations/ads or any other spamware.

14/11/2012 20:33 - Seems they've been removed from the Market but you can still use the service. Click here to still get the extension:

Excellent freebie- American Netflix is far better than English version. Great find.
Thanks!
Sounds interesting. I know Hulu is free but aren't the other two pay sites?

Yes for Netflix, No for Pandora.
UK Netflix subscriptions work on the US Netflix site though.

And I've literally just spent an hour messing around with various programs and settings to do exactly this but gave up, tried this and with the click of one button it installs and instantly works!
How does this work? Proxy?

How does this work? Proxy?

I believe it uses return 'PROXY 50.116.59.63:80';

Found that on the source file at mediahint.com/def…pac

Which is what the extension changes your proxy settings to for Google Chrome.

Might be completely wrong though

Heat added my VPN just ran out and my netflix has been rather lame
thanks
I have it on reasonably good authority that the reason Netflix don't clamp down on this sort of bypass is that they really don't mind at all. They need to put the regional blocking in place to keep the studios happy, but in their view, if someone manages to bypass the locks, then they are quite happy to turn a blind eye as long as you keep paying the bill.

Quite a nice attitude really. I wholeheartedly approve.
great find thanks
Also available as a firefox add in, just search for media hint in firefox add ins/
definitely hot to me, always thought the uk netflix lacked programs and films
thanks
Cheers
Hot Hot Hot!!!

US Netflix much better than UK version...

I've recently been updating my DNS settings on PS3 again to this very thing but the new ones don't seem to last very long before errors occur & you have to search the web for more... I can now simply plug laptop in via HDMI & off we go!

Thank you!!!

(Plus, well done Media HInt... nice work)
Great, will this work with chrome on tablets or just laptops?
Just need them to do an XBMC addon, and my media centre PC life will be complete.
I wonder if setting the proxy on the apple tv to 50.116.59.63 will allow netflix US access on the UK apple tv... tunlr.net used to run a free proxy service that worked great but stopped supporting netflix. was considering unblock.us but thats subscription VPN.

Anyone in front of their ATV now and can try it?
Using proxy settings not working on iPad for me. Adding :80 makes the setting work to surf Internet but doesn't let me access US stuff

80 is an http port, which would make sense for a browser addon. Try using 8080 as the port, ie 50.116.59.63:8080. long shot
8080 sadly doesn't work. If someone can get a fix for atv and iPhone I will be extremely happy!
doesn't work for me, installed in firefox and chrome and in both it doesn't get past "connecting to hulu.com"
I researched this before and found that iPad apps can be programmed to ignore the proxy settings you assign when configuring wifi.

I think the only way around this was to load a specific config to your iPad from an app on your computer, i can't remember exactly but it was something to do with enterprise / business configuration.

it seems like the proxy server is overloaded now with people trying to use this.

Imagine 1000 people trying to stream HD video over their proxy, it's going to be very slow.
It's dead, Jim.

As above i suspect too many people are using it.

I'm sure the reason Netflix "turn a blind eye" has nothing to do with all the extra money it gives them, it's just they're generally nice people!
thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!!
Is there anyway I can watch US Netflix on the PS3???

unblock.us isn't a VPN service, it's a DNS service, which means that none of your traffic gets rerouted except for the tiny bit that tells websites where you're located. So you don't lose any bandwidth or speed, which is important when streaming HD video. It's a pretty excellent service, runs invisibly, and costs a little over £3 a month. I'm a fan.
Works both for Firefox and chrome, originally reviewed by gizmodo uk site, very good heat added.

Maybe useful to note that if you use firefox as your default browser then don't install the plugin in firefox, instead download chrome and install the plugin in chrome, hence Firefox for UK browsing and chrome for USA browsing, works for me (Also vice versa Chrome / Firefox, depending on your default browser)
great find but just getting black screen with sound can browse
using a mac ,could that be it??

Some people have complained about that on facebook I think, might as well head on over and let them know if you want or just wait for an update.
