(Account Specific) Virgin Media Vivid 350 (385mbit throughput) @ £33.75pm

Hi folks,

Not sure how many of you remember the deal from the end of last year where Virgin Media had huge discounts on broadband only options? I can't seem to find the thread - maybe it was this one: hotukdeals.com/dea…928

Anyway. I had taken out the 200mbit gamer package at £36/month. I've just called to ask for upgrade options and they've told me I can bump to vivid 300 for £33.75/month. Furthermore, after upgrading, upon line testing I've found my actual throughput is 380mbit. Looking online it seems Virgin are doing a quiet roll out of vivid350. note: I am still in contract, this is not a retentions offer.

So, yes - I'm sure I'll get cold given this is a) account specific in all likelihood, and b) broadband only whereas you folks like your tv and phone lines, and c) vivid350 location specific. But, even if this helps one person, great

Enjoy the high speed!

Also on 350 package since the 200 gamer bundle was discontinued 3 months ago.

I have seen my download speed go as high as 600mbps. Highly recomend.

I've found that they can link you in parallel to your home fibre! So potentially up to 800mbit if you load balance...

I’m also on 200Mbps but not had a call to upgrade to any higher speeds, logged into my account and there were no higher speeds available

Can anyone sign up for the business broadband or do you have to prove that you are running a business?
Thanks.

How many months have you had left on the contract when you upgraded to this package, OP?
It's a great price, I had to negotiate a new contract in September and the best that I got was 100Mbps broadband and phone for £30 a month which isn't that great compared to what others managed to get from VM.. lol

Response from live chat with them

"I'm sorry currently we are providing till 300mbps. The 350mbps package is not officially launched it's under testing process. Whenever, it'll be available we will notify the customers."

I signed up for 300. got 350. Most of the chat guys don't even know 350 exist based on going through the VM forums.

I'm 8 months into a 12 month contract.

I'm on 200MB BB Only for 34.25 and their site said I can upgrade in my area but when I called them they said I can't as it's not available and I have to wait for an email... this was about maybe a month and a bit ago...I will try again tho I dont think they'll give me an upgrade for a cheaper price though...

That's ultimately what happened to me... £3 less/month, 180mbit more. No change in contract length etc.

When you called and asked they just told you you can have 350 for 33.75 straight off the bat? What was said. Helpful to know anything specific.

I've got 70mbit and can't seem to find any reason to upgrade - what's the advantage of 300mbit+ compared to say 70mbit? Surely Netflix + Videogames + Spotify can't add up to more than 30-50mbit max? Genuine question

Probably just less traffic management. I'm on 100Mb and P2P struggles to reach over 1Mb.

How much are you paying for that? I've got only broadband @ 70 but for £35 a month. I feel like I'm overpaying

As an example, Forza 7 is 99GB.

That means a ~45 minute download time at 300mbps or well over 3 hours at 70mbps.

If you live alone and never download large files then 70mbps is most likely ample. However, if you have several people all using the same connection and/or you regularly download large files, then 300mbps (or even more, once it's available) is definitely helpful.

straight off the bat. I said I was looking into options to upgrade my plan to 300. They gave me that quote without any negotations / pressure.

I used to be on 200mb but in the end I was getting around half that at best. In the early days of getting it, the speed was no problem, but I believe they oversubscribed in our area. I dropped my connection to 100mb and now I get it pretty much all the time, saving me money and getting exactly the same speed. 100mb is more than good enough for what most people need.

Wtf... I'm out of contract, 100Mbps and only getting about 20/30 most of the time. Called to complain about crappy speeds and they told me there was a major upgrade in my area lasting over 18 months, they never bothered telling me before though, was considering switching then next day my bill comes and its gone up to £45/month! Was £36 before. Called straight away to give 30 days notice and was offered some bs credit to cover loss of service if I stayed another 3 months 😋 so looking for another provider, didn't get offered any of this! Considering origin now haha

Cheers for the replies all, makes sense. I'm currently paying around £25 with VM (I think this is a slightly discounted price as I called up after they increased the pricing last November).

I recently came to end of contact for 200 and upgraded to this and agree it’s around 370meg and 20 upload. I pay £53.00 with the anytime calls package.

A bit more info: Just got the upgrade myself. Couldn't get £33.75 like you but got an upgrade for no price increase, now paying £34.25 for 350Mb, and no contract renewal. Lady on the phone said it's a free upgrade for existing customers, not sure but I think you have to already be on their 200Mb contract.

She said she put me on Vivid 300 but the max speed is 350Mb

I'm on 16mb and I get 2mb p2p, not with virgin - not a patch on my parents 300mb though - I've seen p2p hit 42mb/s round there. Mad!

Currently on Vivid 100 and my contract expires in just over a month. Just rang them and they offered me the Vivid 300 for £55/ month.

I'll wait till my contract runs out and cancel.

Yep, Virgin are diabolical with their traffic management during their peak hours. In other words, the exact times most people want to use it.

I was previously on Sky fibre and easily got up to 4Mb on P2P.

Thanks. I'd never heard of Origin but look like a good option. I can still cancel my Virgin package within the cooldown period and not loving their overly feisty restrictions.

I had to prove that it was a business. They accepted a utility bill.

Called vm now to speak about this but they cant do to 350 vivid, but they can offer 300 with phone line £45 that is a lot man

I called and just got offered same prices as on the website.

Yeah im quoted as £48 a month with no phone line

I done the upgrade last week and sales person said vivid 300 but upon checking my package online, it states 350. Also Speedtest shows 380.

Thank you just phoned vm and got 350 for extra 50p a month on my deal.

I'm on 200mb and barely get 50mb most evenings and was down to 30mb at the weekend. They should invest in sorting out their utilisation problems first IMO before offering faster speeds.

They said deal did not exist what deparment did you speak too

200 on a rentention deal for £28 is do able

have have you spoke to them, we had issues when we first had it installed, two junior engineers came out and couldn’t do anything their senior guy came out and found it was an issue on the box that feeds the estate, fixed in a few days and now get as good as we can on the devices we have. Also worth remembering that not all devices will get 200.
