Correct me if im wrong, but dont divers use computers on their hand these …Correct me if im wrong, but dont divers use computers on their hand these days? Why would you need this watch under water, just to check whats the time? Diving watches like this are a past, thats why they are discounted.

Entirely correct. Nobody wants a 200m divers watch. If you could just inform Rolex, Breitling, Omega, Tag Heuer, Seiko, IWC,....................

I dont think so, divers watches are very still sought after, even if you dont even know how go swim people will still buy divers because they are pretty cool!

The watch is considered a "diver" because of it's WR rating. As you say, scuba diver's will wear a dive computer but many continue to wear a watch as well. As regards diving watches being the "past", high demand and increased sales would indicate otherwise.

Divers do indeed use computers these days, but they should also be using Dive tables to calculate their dive profile and bottom time in case the worst happens and their computer battery dies, or goes tits-up in some other way. This in conjunction with a reliable dive watch.

Belt and braces safety measure if you will.

In diving (and most other parts of life) the following phrase is (or should be) always used:

Fail to plan. Plan to fail...

Divers watch is just a name for a style of watch just like a Pilots watch and nothing to do with it being discounted, there's always been more non divers than divers wearing these watches which are commonly called desk divers.

By this logic all watches ‘are a past’, yet a huge number of people still wear and enjoy them.

Nobody is forcing you to buy it. Obviously enough people do like this type of watch or they wouldn’t keep making them, divers are incredibly popular.
I do wonder where the prices of watches will go in the future as smart watches compete. I knew a guy who spent a lot of money on his film cameras as digital cameras were creeping on to the wider market. A few years later those cameras were worth a fraction of the price.

Quartz watches have been on the market for decades, mechanical watches are thriving more than ever. I suspect quartz will be impacted by smartwatches more than mechanical. But something like this for 50 quid is pretty risk free. Not for me personally, but can't knock the deal!

It's a relatively attractive dial yes. I personally won't be buying one, but for the price this is a solid deal for a 200m WR watch with Sapphire.

If he spent money on decent lenses, then they retain their value quite well.

It's also notable that photography is a field where everyone strives for technical excellence and best possible output. The same can't be said of horology, else nobody would be using mechanical watches for decades.

Because it's nice? People like them? Just because something isn't necessary anymore, doesn't mean it has no market.

In theory, vinyls are inferior and outdated in the same way a dive watch is, doesn't stop people spending thousands on equipment and records.

And tbh, a dive watch is bought more because of the way it looks, rather than because of what it can do.

A computer failure isn't the 'worst' that can happen, just an inconvenience.

Safety for me is 2 computers and backup tables in my pocket, not a watch in sight!
Why buy a car that can do 200mph when you can only do 70?Probaly most expensive branded watches are all divers .,costing £ 10000.so cheap from me.
I wonder if anyone has sent back a watch under guarantee because it filled up with water between the 150m & 200m mark

Smart watches are a solution looking for a problem.

I understand fitness bands, but smat watches barely seem to do anything more.

Flip that round and ask, why buy an Iwatch for £500 every two years (which is what apple want you to do) when you could look at that lifetime cost and decideto buy a special watch in the £2k to £8k bracket you'll have your whole life?

I got an Apple Watch and over 28 other mechanical / quartz watches ranging from £20 to £3500 and I like to change what I wear when I want too. If I had 1 or 2 8k watches I would get very bored quickly . I like watches 😃💪

There you go then.

My comment doesn't make sense for a watch lover like you, but there are a lot of people out there who will have upgraded from a accurist like the OP to an I watch, not realising they could have pretty much any thing considering the cost/obsolescence of an iwatch over time vs a decent mechanical.

The Apple Watch is very good and has its uses and purpose for various people who would disregard a decent mechanical watch for several reasons. We all have different needs.

Entirely different thing. Cameras are functional tools.
Watches are items of adornment with a little functionality.
They mean something different from person to person. Some see them as a display of wealth, success, etc. Others appreciate the craftsmanship. Some people like the functionality, others may wear them as a sentimental attachment.
For others it's an investment.
I made a grand on my first decent watch. Buy the right one and it'll be a sound investment.

Smart watches are soldered together in China and decrease in value as soon as the next model is out.

Anything handmade that requires a degree of heritage and skill to come together will never fade away. They're here to stay.

I love watches
granitesilver29/05/2020 17:19

Just counted its 39, think I have a problem

Haha, I think you do have a problem, but it’s a nice problem to have

I’m a serial flipper and have managed to get down to 5 watches at the moment. But have bought & sold circa 15 other watches in the last 12 months, it’s the thrill of the hunt!

That’s why I love getting a bargain on HUKD, so if I decide to sell a watch after enjoying it for a month or two I don’t tend to end up losing any money!
