This got a bit of heat not long ago when it was £50 more, so thought some might be interested. I seemed to miss the black Friday deals, but this one was nice enough for me to snap up - a little bit more interesting on the design than similar screens in the price range.

Sitting close to a TV being bad for health is an old wives tale that comes from very old CRT television screens that had a fault in the 60s. In 1967, GE found out that many of their colour TVs were emitting excessive x-rays due to a factory error. Therefore, as a preventive measure, they warned people not to sit too close to the TV, while they went about recalling the faulty TVs and fixing them. There is no evidence that sitting close to a monitor or TV causes permanent health damage.

What size you looking at? I picked up a 24 inch Acer 4K monitor from eBuyer a few months ago (price changes all the time) which is pretty good or a 28 inch Acer 4K monitor from eBuyer for around £250

No need, Currys price match Amazon. They will refund the difference if you ask.

...... for you . Not for me though , I guess this would also depend on the distance you are from your screen.

Looks slightly better than this as full IPS, 1 millisecond better response, 75Hz frequency and slightly smaller border -
£50 more though;

amazon.co.uk/AOC…HPQ

Anyone reckon there's that much of a difference?

Viewing angles will be better on this. But the AOC has FreeSync.

I went for the Acer, as I use it primarily for design, and so colour accuracy is more important for me. For gaming, I'd guess the other monitor is probably better.

True I forgot the freesync, the AOC deal does sound good if it's a half decent monitor. Not that I have my Radeon card anymore as just swapped it.
For a main monitor I imagine viewing angles are less important, and MVA isn't too bad. Can't imagine the 15Hz different would be that noticeable either, just toying with the idea of ordering this instead. Thanks for the opinion.

For AMD users the AOC would be better I think. As we can't really compare them image quality wise, the AOC isn't even released yet, unless we just base it purely on panel tech. True about viewing angles. As long as they're not effected by a slight angle It's fine.
45Hz to 60Hz is very noticable to me. I don't think I've done 60Hz to 75Hz tests

Any changes up to about 120 Hz are very noticeable to me. Even 144 Hz to 165 Hz is noticable to some people including myself.

Agreed, and would definitely be using it for gaming rather than design, so I guess the 15hz is a consideration for me. Acer also mostly gets good reviews so should be a safe bet when like you say, we know nothing about the AOC but the specs.

A monitor is supposed to be a screen designed to sit close I would class a 31 inch as a tv but if it's what you want go for it personally I wouldn't go over 28 inch for a monitor

Rewind 20 years and you'll have been able to find those who said anything more than 21" for a monitor would be a TV

I had the AOC pre-ordered but very tempted to cancel that and go for this. There doesn't seem to be very many reviews knocking about though, anybody here with this screen have any major issues with it?

It will be for media consumption and gaming, I know I'll lose Freesync but I have a GTX 1080 anyway. I would have liked Freesync in case I ever jump over to AMD again but that could be years.

Also, Amazon say this is 75Hz but I'm also seeing other retailers list it as 60Hz, which is true?

Tell that to the VR headset makers

The AOC is only £199

I have an AOC 32" monitor, had it a few years now. 32" is about the right size for a monitor. It really is not too big. Once you have it, you'll be happy.

Over the years I have gone from 14, 15, 19, 24 to 32.
It dwarfs my Dell 24".

Next year 4K 42"

So , again just your opinion though , right ? .

Just for clarification , sitting close to a 28" monitor for hours would be fine but sitting close to a 31" screen or above would be bad for my health , forgive me for not paying any more attention to your posts

Not sure if it's a joke or he's being serious...

This monitor arrived today. Colours are decent, size is great, viewing angles are ok. There is really very bad backlight bleed though, I've been considering sending it back and trying the AOC, I might give it a few days to see if I can live with it though. For the price I think I might just deal with it.
