The recent MSI netbook deal became the equivalent of the Orange San Francisco on the Computer tab. How does this netbook compare? (Yes, only 3 months warranty).

didnt see the MSI one but i have this netbook and the HDMI output @ 1080p is the best part for me (i put in 2gb ram and win 7 ultimate too).

Why do people buy cheap nasty computers? Then complain that the computer is so slow and sucks.

My daughter had this for over 2 years and is brilliant, considering she often picks it up by the screen and its never broken (only charger broke but thats with pulling it by the wire and not by the plug)

Cheap enough but I can't quite see the appeal of the 1080p HDMI...surely not nearly quick enough to process HD material?

gpu seems to handle it fine, 1080p films show 40-50% cpu usage and 20-30% for 720p, it great for quickly pluging into the tv (inc sound so better than vga)

you do need to setup mpc properly to enable hardware acceleration though

Seems hot for a netbook!

Saw one of these in action recently. Very impressive - Handles 1080p content without missing a beat. MW2 ran at native res with a mixture of low/medium details very well.

argos are doing the msi wind u135 with windows 7 for 199 with discounts on microsoft updates
i dare not post pc deals as i dont know enough about them and every one seems to have there own opinions, but it looks pretty good to me

thats sorted it, now its smooth as at 1080p cheers

Many reviews say it can't handle 1080p, yet a lot say it can as do people in this forum...

Can anyone confirm for sure that this netbook can handle high bitrate 1080p? Stuff like raw Blu-ray movie files (18GB+).

Thanks.

Not as good.
Weak Intel GPU - will not be able to handle HD video

it was a bit pants at any HD stuff until hardware acceleration was sorted in MPC

What sort of stuff have you tried it with?

I may go for the next model up - Aspire One 721 due to the higher res screen.
It's £300 at Amazon, gonna have to find it cheaper...

i tend to stick to 720p tbh to save time but i did try a 19gb dark knight rip and that was fine and that 1080p youtube vid in the previous post. Just watch that most reviews are for the American spec machine which has a faster processor than the UK one

I've bought this in the last week from CEX.co.uk as new for £160 - which might be worth considering as although second hand is in excellent condition and comes with a year's waranty - rather than the 3 months!

With regards to HD content mine struggles with 720p MKV files, AVIs are fine though.

MPC = Media Player Classic? What specifically did you do?

if i remember correctly, one of the things it says disable i couldn't find so i installed it then disabled it just to make sure

This is a great deal. Amazing price for a good performance netbook.
Would definitely purchase if it wasn't for a few factors such as:

1) 3 month warranty.
2) Will have to add extra RAM.
3) Banned from eBay - they don't like me selling my 10th Prestige Service.
4) 600p resolution.

Will probably order the 751 from Amazon @ £300.

Just had a look at it.
Great specs.
But reviews say the Acer's CPU is a lot faster.

I am also staying away from Lenovo Laptops due to the FN key placement. I know it would drive me nuts.

Thanks for the suggestion.
I know the ASUS Eee PC 1215N would be perfect for me, but sadly there don't seem to be any available anywhere.
You wouldn't happen to know of anymore good netbooks would you?

Thanks OP! Was about to order the MSI netbook for my nephew but don't think he would be best pleased with a pink one!

Ordered the black version: item no 110664999415

Any idea if this version takes a sim card inside?

Bargain. It's going to be a helluva lot faster than the Atom based equivalents. This is from the Endgadget review;

"We had a hunch AMD was sitting on some good stuff given the number of laptop makers that have been picking up their new chips, but, as they say, seeing is believing. These two laptops aren't perfect and their battery life is disappointing, but for their price we are impressed. At $349 the Aspire One 521 is one of the most powerful 10-inch netbooks on the market now, and though it may not last as long on a charge as Atom-powered one, it's miles ahead in terms of managing Flash and HD video. No, we're not the biggest fans of the huge logo on its lid, but its price and performance are sure to win over someone looking for a 10-incher"

The laptop should also be capable of some light gaming.

Video of someone playing Modern Warfare 2.

Shame about the battery life.

Thanks I'll give that a look tonight, the MKVs I was playing were a bit jumpy, laggy and the sound came out of sync - looks like this might help.

Some good (ie smart) testing youtube.com/wat…dN8

I went for one of these due to the AMD, HDMI and Win7 and I've never owned tech that's "copper" coloured X)

Worth a look.

Thanks to the OP.

does this have a vga port?
