Duh indeed! Don't you just hate it when you vote before engaging brain - I wish there was a 'delete my vote' option

HOT deal; but there are other options at this price range:-

Lenovo with bigger HDD and Blu-ray for £579.99 : hotukdeals.com/dea…368

Or this Lenovo at about the same price saveonlaptops.co.uk/Len…tml

This is mainly a gaming laptop deal, because the GT 540M is significantly better than the 6370M Radeon (which is a rebranded 5470).

I have the 5470 with a core i3 in mine which I got significantly cheaper through a one-off special. If I had listed this I would have a made it crystal clear that this is a second generation core i5, not that I know much about the generations of core i5's.

that second lenovo has a weaker graphics card, no usb 3.0. And costs an extra tenner into the bargain (_;)

I was only highlighting a couple of similar deals - personally I'd rather the Acer any day.

That second Lenovo does have more ram and a bigger HDD to compensate; I'd seen that the graphics were weaker; but I'd missed that it was only USB 2.0 (Can't understand why manufacturers would build a Sandybridge motherboard with USB 2.0 - seems daft to me ;))

I went through checkout, and went to pay (won't have cleared funds untill the morning) and it applied the discount of £2.51. Strange why it didn't work for you.

It has to be debit card NOT paypal.

is it just me, but why do I think of 'Sandy Crack' when I see 'Sandy Bridge'

I ordered the Lenovo B570 i5 2140M but it was faulty (unable to enter BIOS or change Boot options - certified DOA by Lenovo, Kikatek arranged return via Parcelforce who refused to collect from my place of work - though they didnt tell me so had to take it to local Parcelforce office. then returned over bank holidays now sitting in Kikateks RMA for testing, they say they have backlog of returns before they test my laptop, contact only via email, I guess its not really all their fault but it will be a month and I still have no laptop..........

are these mobile i5 processors the same as i5 processors for a pc? how do they compare if anyone knows?

No, they are not the same as the ones in a desktop computer. Hard to answer the second question if you are talking about performance per £ because one is inside a laptop and the other a desktop

I would rather have a powerful laptop but I just want to know if its a major difference in comparison to a desktop, forget about the pricing and what I should choose, just if its a huge difference
Edited by: "BiGT-" 10th May 2011

I find this site useful for comparing CPU's: cpubenchmark.net/hig…tml This laptop looks good but I'm after a desktop replacement that is at least as powerful as the Q9550 I currently have. Think I'll continue looking for another good i7-2630qm deal.

How about you engage your noggin before asking stupid questions like "is this laptop processor as fast as a desktop processor. Its just a mind-numbingly stupid question that could be solved with 1 whole minute of your time by doing your own research.

safc32

Personally I'd rather pay the extra CHF 42.5 () and get this

You'd rather pay 30 quid extra and get a significantly weaker graphics card? Erm, good for you I guess.

Hot. I have a kobalt with similar spec and its a great laptop.

Gfx cope with a lot more than I expected and the CPU seems to be quite rapid.

Its a shame that other people apparently know the answer, but don't want to answer the question.

The Corei5 Sandy Bridge is Intel's latest generation of CPU. It is fast.

Mobile CPUs are slower than their desktop counterparts - reason: desktop computers have unlimited power available to them, while laptops need to consider run time on batteries. Hence, the lower power usage and as result the slower speed.

In summary a Corei5 mobile cpu will be slower than the desktop equivalent.

In the land of desktop cpus though, this is one of the fastest currently available.
