Not everyone's taste but I think it looks very nice... This is no everyday laptop that you'll want to lug around for long, as it weighs around 7.8kg and battery life is only 1.5 hours. However, if you're looking for a space saving mobile PC that combines a 1.3mp WebCam, VoIP phone, Digital TV Tuner, DVD playback and recording with a bright 20.1" LCD display I reckon it's a good buy. The only let down is it's not ideal for gaming without reducing the screen resolution. See specification under 'Comments' below...

Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium, Intel® Core2 Duo processor T5500 (2 MB L2 cache, 1.66 GHz, 667 MHz FSB), 20.1" WSXGA+ high-brightness (300-nit) Acer CrystalBrite TFT LCD, 6 lamps, NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 7600 with 256 MB of external GDDR2 VRAM, 1024MB of DDR2 667 MHz memory, 120GB Serial ATA hard disk drives, 8X slot-load DVD-Super Multi double-layer drive, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11ABG WLAN, 5-in-1 card reader, 8 Cell battery, 1.3 OrbiCam, Hybrid TV-tuner + MCE Remate control, Bluetooth®, VoIP phone

This is highly recommended by Mobile Computer magazine at £925 inc. VAT, but right now at Amazon.Co.UK it's in-stock at £799.99 including free SuperSaver delivery...

Why Cold?

Nice desktop replacement which can be occasionally carried.

Voted hot..

Amazon seems to have confused the display size, it is def 20.1"

HOT HOT HOT!

i bought this 2 months ago

added another 1gb ram for under £25.

faultless

i sold my desktop on ebay within a week of getting it.

you wont need another pc for a long time

(dont expect to take it to work/on holiday though - its tricky lifting it without two hands!)

also 20.1" screen! thats TWENTY.ONE INCHES! - you have to see it to believe it

just to give you an idea, the laptop comes with a stabiliser to stop the weight of the huge screen making the whole thing role over.

thoroughly recommended

That's not a portable laptop is it? You couldn't even put that on your knee and although there will be laptop bags for it you'd have to get something on wheels or get a really sore shoulder.

I'd rather have a normal sized laptop screen, easy to carry and a desktop for home. This isn't a bargain for me.

It is portable in a large luggage or bag.
Particularly mobile no?

These types of laptop are becoming more popular for those not fussed by limited upgrades but want a tidy desk and minimalism.

And compared to other 19-20" laptops offers this is a good deal which is why Rayman posted it.

I don't think there are that many people out there that want that, as a desktop replacement it's pretty expensive for what it is. As a laptop it's too big for most.

Only my opinion. I wouldn't touch it even if it was a lot cheaper.

Laptop sales are fast overtaking ordinary PC sales and not everyone will want a small size low-mp screen to use.

For occasional/rare or even never transporting, and minimum footprint, it's unmatched as a type of PC tbh.

The only good thing about this laptop is the 20.1" screen. For the money I rather have the
ACER AS5920G
Core 2 Duo T7300 2GHz
2GB DDR2 RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 1GB of TurboCache memory

This is actually a pretty good deal with the price, I was considering buying this model a while ago as it was quite interesting to say the least. You can fit 2 HDD in this for raid and it has a pretty decent graphics card for a laptop!

Have to say that compared with a desktop, this sort of machine is quite ideal as you don't have to fiddle with so many power cables with a desktop and it can be easily stored away/moved if required (great if u live in uni accomodation etc).

That one looks pretty awsome for the price, might get one myself when i replace my old celeron at end of month.

Looks good to me. Hot.

£40 off for those using the NUSextra discount & possibly still 1% nectar if that's still going (I don't have a nectar card so haven't checked).

Under technical details it seems to say 'Display Size: 17" WXGA TFT Display with Acer CrystalBrite technology'

Of course it also says the bigger size too.

This one is definitely the 20.1" widescreen as featured in Mobile Computer magazine

also note although no quidco with amazon, you can always register as an amazon associate and get at least 5% cashback, making this a mere £760ish.

just google amazon associates

have you heard the concept of desktop replacement?

anyone who thinks this is two big and heavy, name a desktop that doesnt take up a corner of a room, that you can use on a bed or a sofa, that you can carry under one arm.

as for using it on your lap, thats not advisable medically with any laptop, not just this one

Personally, I think I would still want to gain some portability when buying a laptop - even if I was buying it as a "desktop replacement" (a concept I take to mean that the laptop becomes your PRIMARY home computer). I don't know that 7.8kg really gives me that feeling of portability.

If I was really fussed about having a 20" screen, I would be tempted to get something like ]this dell and simply have a 20/22 inch screen on my desk at home to hook it up to when I needed it. For me, that would provide a more flexible (and slightly cheaper) compromise (and give the benefit of being able to run two screens).

I know it wouldn't tick every box - you would still end up with a permanent screen somewhere, but I would find it a better setup for me. However, if someone decides the top priority must-have feature of their new desktop replacement laptop is a large, large screen in a single unit they would have a different view. If screen size is all important, I imagine people are going to be prepared to sacrifice the ability to carry it round easily.

Is there any way to hook up an Xbox 360 to this beast?!

Am seriously tempted but this lappy seems so unportable.

Voted hot as its a good price, but something this big is crying out for a better GPU.

Couldnt you get the new IMac 24' with the same price?:p

I think I'd go with what someone said above, a smaller laptop for a lot less, and a 20" tft, with mouse and keyboard to hook it up to in the house.

At 20.1", weighing 8kg and with a battery life of around 3 hours I'd say it sounds like more hassle than it's worth.

Still a good deal, but not one I'd go for.
