Argos are definitely setting the price of gaming laptops now. This is the price level they should have been at all along!
Thanks looking for a new laptop, very tempted
700 £ you can buy proper gaming laptop not something what appears to be one
Very decent, too bad the 1050 is only 2GB

Show us something better for the money, or better still something this won't run in moderate settings

Is that bad then
Looks pretty good to me if you're looking for a general laptop with occasional light gaming. Heat.

If you don't care about gaming then you'd probably get something better with on board graphics for cheaper. If you're a big gamer then probably want better than this. This fits between the two.

Can you give us a link please. I’m looking for something around the £700 mark.
2GB of VRAM is fine, I think you’ll exceed the limits of the card before you run out of VRAM to be honest. I think only 1050 Ti and above get a real-world benefit from 4GB otherwise it’s just marketing.

I’m sure these are well priced because the 8th gen CPUs are out and have a massive advantage over the 7th gen as a result (double the cores). I would probably not be buying a 7th gen right now as a result unless I was in a rush and found a good clearance priced model like this.

It’s still a good deal in its own right.

This is not a mobile 7th gen processor but HQ instead which has 4 cores just like 8th gen mobile ones.

EDIT

My bad, 8th gen is ultra low wattage mobile with 4 cores and this has a TDP of 45W which means battery life won’t be great. Performance wise it’s almost identical. Lower TDP is obviously better because it will give a better battery life, but you couldn’t find 8th gen i5 8250U with gtx 1050 at this price point as well as an SSD and IPS screen. Overall I think this is a great deal

I thought it was a dual core i5-7200U, didn’t see the HQ bit.

So this is a mobile part but still last gen, they will be dropping further but I guess at this moment it’s not as far behind as I initially thought.

However, I would still refrain from buying a 7th gen as 8th gen parts start to trickle into mainstream as retailers will be scrabbling to get rid of current stock and many deals will be found. And as I said and still stand by, it’s a good deal in its own right.
So is this good for mainly Photoshop, Illustrator etc use

Definitely, I use photoshop on i3-6100u dual core cpu laptop and it works just fine. This Quad Core i5 coupled with gtx 1050 should fly.

Don't forget that there some Argos card users are getting 10% off vouchers making this a steal at a smidge over £580

Thanks! My old laptop has 8BG RAM, i7 (3rd gen) processor and dedicated graphics card but it's 5 years old. Would this be a downgrade?

Depends what exact i7 it is, as well as the graphics card, although the cpu being 4 generations behind I am pretty sure it would be a big improvement. Also if you don’t have an SSD this would feel on another level performance wise.
Just picked mine up thanks for posting plugman 17

In general what am I looking for in a processor?

You want as many cores as possible and to squeeze the highest clock speeds too. I recommend something like user benchmark to put yours in and compare against others.

Thanks, I'll have a look around
slightly pricier than other deals posted with gtx1050 but I like the non-gaming look of this one, perfect for casual gamers.
