Got one of these for my lad with his saved money.

Looked a pretty good spec for the price. With a FHD screen too.

Got it in store, but it's online as well.

Apart from the ridiculously long winded windows 10 updates, which we're still applying, my boy loves it.

Could do with an SSD, but everything is really good. Perfectly fine for day to day use, Netflix watching etc etc.

Some low level gaming could be done on it too, I reckon.

For the price we're not complaining.
Only concern is, how good is the AMD A4 in comparison with the i3 from the last £250 laptop deal? (Just need something fast enough for uni work; word processing, PowerPoint making, browsing etc)

I would say this would be fine for your requirements.
Ordered as a spare, lovely
Sure. I've just ordered a new car as a spare too.
Anyone know which one is faster this or the John £250 ?

Thank you.
A quick google doesn't help, can anyone tell me if the HDMI port this presumably has (or display port) supports HDR?
Heat added. Looks ok for the money OP, do you know if it is an easy job to up the RAM to 8GB.
This one or the HP just posted ? Any advice

this one for full HD 1080p and bigger HD I think. Probably best get SSD if it gets any kind of regular use.

Go for this one, bigger full HD screen. Unless you want the smaller low res screen as the battery will be better
We need a new one for general use, watching films/shows, Internet browsing , using Microsoft Office. Would this suffice and last for a reasonable amount of time? Also is the memory upgradeable? Or would the currys offer on the HP 15-bs162sa be better value? The latter is £399 plus possible £40 Quidco

I'm looking for a cheap laptop for the latest Football Manager game and just general browsing, would anyone be able to shed some light on whether this would be able to run it?

I haven't looked inside, but there are easy access panels on the underside.

It's also DDR4 RAM.
Looks a decent spec for the price especially with a FHD screen, 4GB memory and a 1TB drive. Coupled with a 15.6” screen, full size keyboard and a 5.5hr battery life. The CPU performs well and achieves a good CPU score alongside Intel i3/i5 processors.

Ordered! Thanks OP
Does this have DVDRW

It's absolutely awful.

The A4-9120 (which is on this) is pretty much as rubbish as you can get.

The benchmark is around 1700 for the processor. By comparison, a 6th gen i3 (6006u) is roughly 3000, and a Pentium N3710 (found in most budget laptops) is around 1900.

In short, it's awful compared to the £249 lenovo.

Is it good enough for word processing? Sorme will say yes, but once you get to a few 10,000 word coursework papers with images and formatting, especially using Word, and a few browser windows open, it wouldn't surprise me if it froze a lot.

So your saying it's a rubbish laptop all round then

Nope. You'd struggle with classic mode on FM13 I reckon.

My old laptop was a Pavilion G6 with a better AMD processor than this, and from FM12 onwards it would only run Classic mode with 2 leagues. I stopped at FM15 as Classic mode was starting to demand more, too.

FM can be quite a demanding game, even without the in-game graphs. It's never "impossible" to play it on a CPU that is below the minimum requirements, but it won't be enjoyable.

It's just not a good way to spend money, imo.

A full HD screen gets pretty redundant unless you have a decent system behind it. I think it'd be a bit silly to spend £220-250 on a laptop like this, unless you're willing to discard it after a year. It makes more sense to spend a small amount more on a better base spec and get a few more years out of it.

I think this is the epitome of "cheap for a reason" over "a great deal". Just my opinion based on the spec. Maybe an elderly relative or someone who just uses the most basic apps wouldn't notice, but then that's kinda what a Chromebook at half the price is for (again, imo)

from the pictures, it looks like the battery is non replaceable?
Ordered one last night, Thanks!

Only needed for web browsing, MS Office, printing can’t complain for £230! Price has now gone up to £350
Yeah it does look like the price has gone up to £350 now. I'll expire it.
