I've been looking for a 15"+, 8Gb RAM, 256Gb SSD laptop for a while now and this is the first one I've seen under £600. In addition, Tesco staff double discount starts today, so this can be had for £480 if you are staff, or know someone who would be willing to buy it in their name.

All desktop Core i7 CPUs are quad core CPUs. However, only certain mobile Core i7 CPUs are quad core CPUs while others are dual core CPUs. All "M" and "U" model Core i7 CPUs are dual core CPUs while MQ, HQ and MX versions are quad core CPUs.

To the best of my knowledge all 5th generation mobile Core i7 CPUs are dual core CPUs since the focus is on low power consumption for longer batter life. All ultrabooks only use dual core "u" model CPUs since that is one of the requirements for a laptop to be classified as an ultrabook.

If CPU performance is important then buy a laptop with a quad core i7 CPU. If CPU performance is not too important or if battery life is important then buy a laptop with a dual core i7 CPU.

Ffs i would have bought this. But I've ordered the macbook air now

Nice find - the whole package is actually pretty appealing, they haven’t skimped on anything really. The ULV i7 is a bit of a waste but nice all the same, I guess you could complain about no discrete graphics but not everyone wants them

This seems a little pricey it's only a duo core processor

Just in time for double discount

Dont' worry about it. The Macbook will outlive the Acer by many years.

Any Tesco direct discount codes to bring this down a bit for non Tesco staff?

Nice build, processor and key features, but rubbish graphics and no backlit keyboard... Not sure if it's worth £600 vs some of the other recent deals... worth holding out perhaps?

"enjoy the latest games with Intel® UHD graphics"

Is that... misleading? It's not going to play much well, is it?

A Medion laptop has been posted with a i5 7200u processor on here for £479

£600!!! How can this be hot?

It's worth pointing out that the latest 8 series U processors are quad cores so will be a massive upgrade over the 7 series here.

Because people on here are nuts and don't know what makes a good deal and what doesn't when it comes to laptops.

Bit harsh seeing as I'd gone through all the usual reliable retailers and couldn't find one with similar specs under £600. In addition, £600 is just the headline figure. With a bit of work (and luck) a good proportion of buyers should be able to get it for £480.

Not meant as a criticism of you personally, it was more a general observation of the way that deals for average or even flawed laptops go 'hot' on here because of people voting for things that they don't really understand.

Staff discount. Currently double eg 20% instead of 10%

I see, so that counts me out, not sure that i'd personally class that as a large proportion

320,000 UK employees, let's say (for arguments sake) 200,000 have the colleague discount card (have to be there for 6 months). Now, if you say each employee knows 10 non-employees, immediate family and say 6 or 7 friends, it's not hard to find 10 non-employees for each Tesco worker. That's 2 million nationwide. So I would say, yes, "a good proportion"!

This is a hot deal for Tesco colleagues (and those who are close enough to one to get it through them) whilst the 20% discount lasts. It's lukewarm at best if you aren't in that position. I just ordered mine for £479.99.

That's fair enough, everyone will have a differing opinion on what constitutes "a good proportion" but for me it is obviously a higher percentage than you which is fine.

I don't work for tesco personally but i'd also believe that the discount is not allowed to be used for family and friends but thats just my experience of other staff discount schemes (and i stand to be corrected) but if it is allowed then great and i need to befriend some members of tesco staff quick

I guess technically it's not! But there's nothing to stop your dad/daughter/mate... whatever, from buying it in their name, then you paying them back! I would only recommend using family and close friends though.

Just disable the onboard.

Disable Onboard Graphics

1. Press "Windows-R" to open the "Run" tool, type "devmgmt.msc" into the box and then click "OK."

2. Double-click the "Display Adapters" category in the Device Manager window to display its contents.

3. Right-click the graphics device labeled "Onboard" or "Integrated" and select "Disable."

4. Click "Yes" to confirm the disabling of your onboard graphics. Close the Device Manager.

Thanks for that, you sure the nvidia will kick in and I won’t have a blank screen. It’s an nvidia gt 540 if that’s any good.

Yeah. Happens all the time with gamers. They always blame a games poor performance and then are informed of this. Can probably change it in the bios also.
