Very seem to have some good deals on computing at the moment, so here is another one.

Good spec for the price 8th Gen i5 processor, 2TB Hard Drive, Full HD screen, 8GB Ram.

Price shows £529.99 but if you enter code MQPMT it will take £100 off.

It is buy now pay later so if you clear the balance within 12 months there will be no payable interest.

Yes it does not have SSD, but I guess you cant have it all.

Cracking general use laptop! Nice find OP.
Taking a quick look around, I think it has an M.2 slot hidden inside which would make this a very nice laptop! Heat!

The 256 SSD version is currently £490 with code at Tesco direct. And yes you can add a HDD or an extra SSD easily, has removable covers.

It's hard to track down the exact model, I think that you can, they sell an almost identically specced one with a 1Tb drive and a 128Gb SSD. That suggests to me that there is an unused slot in this model, pop in a little M.2 drive and re-install windows to that and use the 2Tb for storage would make this a little cracker
I wish I knew about computers so I can put 256SSD + 2TB In it

Thanks, just corrected the typo.
Hot. I used an Acer for more than 6 years at work, travelling around the country almost daily. After all that time it was still working perfectly. Unfortunately I've now been issued a HP probook, wish I could have been issued a new Acer instead

Easy option, just get the SSD version then add a 2TB hard drive for storage,. Very simple on the Aspire 5 and 7 series. Has maintenance bays at the bottom for easy upgrade.

If It's a 2.5 inch sata laptop drive, should be fine.

Yes you can but you have to buy 4TB hard drive separately.

If you don't mind can you amazon link one that's compatible thanks
Any 2.5 inch sata drive will be compatible, just search it. If I were you, I would invest in m2 SSD to make the laptop faster and instal it along side the 2TB one. Then if you need more space just get an external hdd or replace the 2tb with 4.

What would make more sense - buying the ssd one and adding a hdd or vice versa. An extra 1tb would prob do me as have an external anyway. Would a 1tb extra ssd be very costly and would there be a noticeable improvement in speed getting the ssd as drive 2 over a hdd if just using the 2nd drive for media storage. All id have on the main drive would be windows and office etc nowt demanding

It's 60 quid in the difference so for the same price as the tesco one you could get the Very laptop and a 256GB ssd. You would have to install it and install windows to the SSD so if you're not comfortable doing that just get the tesco laptop.

I just learned something, 2.5" 4TB drives are actually quite fat, more platters. So it might not fit in most laptops.

If you want to keep the hard drive as well, then it needs to be an m.2 SSD. They look more like a stick of ram than a normal hard drive. e.g. amazon.co.uk/WD-…JD/

Lots of reviews I have read of recent Acer laptops all seem to have the same thing to say about the screens - not bright enough.

Can anyone here who has used Acers let us know what they think of the brightness or lack of?

Don't quote me on this, because I haven't seen it in the flesh, but the site says "Screen Type: IPS".

Reviews of this laptop suggest the problem lies with TN displays on the lower end models rather than ones fitted with IPS displays.
I can confirm thus looks like a tn display. Only has 1366x768 display

Sooo Very catalogue never get their descriptions wrong do they... hmmmmmmmm

How about checking the device in your hands? Maybe you "should get your facts right" first.

I ordered it a couple days ago and it arrived today, the description is wrong you numpty!
Can anybody else who has ordered this laptop through very confirm. I called acer with the serial number and they confirmed.

If true, I'd honestly consider contacting Trading Standards (and it goes without saying; send it back for a full refund).

You're absolutely correct btw. Confirmed, the model of this laptop has a 1366x768 TN display. Very are mis-selling this (cheap/crappy TN) as the more expensive (IPS) model.

I'd seriously recommend that anyone who bought one of these send it back and report them to trading standards!
From what I can find, the model with 1366x768 TN screen comes with 7th gen i5-7200u, this one should be the updated version with FULL HD screen and 8th Gen i5. If VERY really did mess up all that essential info and you bought the laptop, then by all means return it.

Anyway price has gone up, so going to expire the deal now.
yeh after speaking with 4 different shop direct advisers yesterday saying I haven't a leg to stand on in regards to returning it because i've switched it on... I eventually spoke to one of the online chat team advisors ( who because I have worked for shop direct in the past I know that they are the more well inormed and experience advisers) I mentioned consumer rights to inspect the item whilst taking reasonable care and he agreed to return the item for full refund..

Very are trying to make a quick buck on an laptop knowing full well "most" people will not even check the screen spec!
On another note the serial number for this laptop is not even on the Acer model list at all.. No other retailer besides shop direct have or ever sold this laptop.

Bought this as a present for someone, and ordered a return on it on their behalf.

Earlier today I spent about 10-15 minutes on the phone with a guy in India and they said they were transferring me to another department within Very then forwarded me to the Acer helpline! The guy on the phone was laughing at their stupidity (what the hell are Acer supposed to do when a completely different company sends out the wrong item?).

Just got through to them again and had the same conversation you had. First of all saying they won't issue a refund/replacement because the item has been opened, then saying they won't issue a refund because it's been connected to the internet. They're bloody crazy, and they are definitely told to fob people off as much as possible.

Like you, I threw a bit of legislation at them and they backed straight down, although at the end of the call they did try fobbing me off with "you need to send it back to us by taking it to one of our collection points". Again, told them they are responsible for collection under UK law, and they (eventually) agreed to come and collect and give a full refund.

I've probably wasted two hours on this today (including ringing their Liverpool number this morning, and being told someone from complaints would contact me back as a matter of urgency. No call from them, and I'm not holding my breath). When it comes to customer service they really are the pits, I don't know why anybody would buy anything from them!

They say they've sent a replacement (at the new price of £579, but say they'll honour the original price + credit). I'll update on this thread when it arrives. If it's another Gen 7 with 1388 x 768 display it will go straight back again. Might be a complete waste of my time but it's their money.

I'm a bit more cynical than you. I'm thinking they've put the price up by £50 (or £150 if you include the discount) because they're actually selling the described item this time.

We'll see.
Sorry to hear that, sounds like a horrendous experience to have. Sometimes CS and the muppets updating the site can be VERY useless. In all these years I have not seen such a massive administartive error, getting wrong the essential specs of the lap top, this is false advertising and you automatically get a refund or replacement for free, no questuons asked. Anyway I hope they send the correct one this time, if not return it.
