It may be an i7 but it's really only a dual core processor, so not that great imo
I look through most of the computer threads on here and every laptop /notebook deal appears to gets slagged off by some.

What I am hoping for is for links to alternative laptops with better specs and better bang for buck?
Maybe a dedicated thread, that is updated with best gaming lap top and desktop deals, best office work deals, etc.

looks good but just a reminder this is 'not' a gaming laptop.

Meh, it’s okay that’s it
Previously posted but still welcomed, heat from me hotukdeals.com/dea…881
It’s okay wouldn’t expect to play any new games with the integrated graphics will be fine for games upto 2013
Hi welcome.
So the things that looks like a deal breaker is the 1TB HDD is not only a HDD (not ideal) its a 5400 rpm.
You said its an i7 however its a dual core with hyperthreading so 2 virtual cores as well. So 2/4
A standard i5 will usually have 4 cores 4 threads (4/4) which will perform better in general then this i7u version.

Is this laptop for yourself?
Budget?
Requirements? (Size, gaming/general, weight)
Not as good as the £499 Curry's i7 7700HQ before black friday but at least with this one there will be plenty of stock.

I am not an expert & question might sound silly but what should we look for i5 or i7 , dual core or (quad core)?

Thanks for the insight. Yes the laptop is for me and for general usage and light gaming. I also had a few specific requirements like ease of upgrade within limited budget. That's why I opted to get this one.
This is too cpu heavy. Should have had a weaker cpu (non hq, dual core i5), less ram and been coupled with at least a 940. It's hard to see exactly who these specs were designed for.

Also, mobile i5s are usually dual core, not quad core. See notebookcheck.net/Mob…tml for a cpu hierarchy.
Great laptop. Fantastic performance - plays absolutely everything I've thrown at it at 1080p/60fps basically all the time. Good battery life both when gaming and not (4-ish hours gaming depending on game, 9-ish hours when not). Amazingly well engineered and built. Incredibly thin and light considering the specs. Build quality is top-notch, not even the tiniest bit of flexing or rattling anywhere to be found. Easily on par with a MacBook Pro.

Tiptop find! Low price for the spec and quality of build!
Shame it doesn't come with a SSD, atlhough I realise upgrading to an SSD is easier than upgrading a screen to FHD if it is even possible.
I think it should be "7th Gen" instead of "7th Feb" in the title

I believe this laptop comes with M.2 SSD slot under the hood and should easily be upgraded to have both SSD and HDD.

The naming scheme isn't very consistent unfortunately.

If you have a HQ after the name so i7-7700HQ for example that usually means it's a high performance cpu.

The only way to know for sure is to do a 5 second Google and it will take you to the Intel site and it will say how many cores and how many virtual cores.

You want the highest physical cores.

Dual cores are fine for general use if the price reflects that. So sub £450.

Bang on.....however now that 8th generation “U” laptops are also Quad Core, it is another factor to consider! Intel don’t make things easy for the average consumer

I've got a gaming version of it and added my own m.2 ssd to it which made it fly. Any idea if it has an m.2 slot?

mojo5110, I agree, I would be more drastic than sub £450. If I needed a new laptop at this point I would pay £399 for this one. Argos generally do good entry level Windows laptop packages (£299 to £329), a couple of applications open, a web browser open, and a video player running/paused simultaneously. This is a bit above that though it is not a gaming laptop. It will probably be available at around £399 in six months time I expect.
The maxim in IT management is that you never buy the latest technology, you want a couple of generations down the line (18 months in terms of what Intel is rolling out?) - the older technology has had most of the bugs fixed (or they are known), it costs less to support, and there is more (and lower-cost) expertise available to support and develop on it. This isn't as drastic as it sounds as most of the entry-level packages on the market are well-optimised "older" processors that are packaged in a known and well-optimised package.
Looks decent. Anyone know if this particular model has a backlit keyboard?
I have the ACER VN7 592G Nitro which is for gaming.

Any idea how this would handle FM2018 with a large database and a few leagues running?
How suitable would this be for football manager/general online use/spreadsheets etc? I’m hopeless with laptop specs
