Hmm im tempted to buy this myself.

I am wanting a laptop for Uni work and still have portability.

I was looking at the Samsung NC10 Netbook but think I may go with the Acer 2920.

Thanks.

I bought this exact model in October for the same price so would expect it to fall in price still further early in the new year so may be worth waiting.

Great laptop though and price is still hot imho.

just weighed mine - 2.6kg

why pay more for a similar spec machine with a 12" screen?

12" is too small - ooh err. ;-)

been looking at this for 3 months for my m&d but they dont want a cream keyboard ffs. Looking at another 70 quid for a black one sim spec but they dont want to spend that much ffs

To my opinion , this is very hot!!!

of course a laptop is portable. an extra 600g is hardly a big deal unless you're a complete wimp! :whistling:

So why dont we make it 4kg then its only an extra 2kg.

It all adds up mate, and I would prefer to get it as light as I can.

best check someone else's laptop with a 12" screen then mate. Barely enough screen to do any productive work on.

600g is 30% heaver. 2kg is 100% heavier!

A big difference.

I've got a 12 incher and I'd say it's fine to do work on. You don't need a big screen to do stuff on a laptop. It's much easier to carry as it's lighter and smaller.

Not that I'd pay extra for one but they're certainly more portable.

very good buy for the spec hot

Sorry to hijack this thread.

This laptop is more expensive. But what are your opinions of it?

It's not so much the screen size that hinders productive work but the resolution. They're dubbed netbooks for a reason - they're primarily for browsing the web, using email etc.

If your productivity only extends as far as typing up essays then the netbooks are great. However, if you run Dreamweaver etc. then they're not so great. They have enough power to run such apps (with a little patience) but the screen is the hinderance.

Completely agree with portability though, and proper ultra-portable laptops are very expensive.

I don't think it's fair to compare regular laptops to netbooks - they're for completely different audiences and purposes. This laptop is a great spec for the price. Voted hot.

I've got that Acer 12" laptop, it's a cracking piece of kit and at that price is a real bargain, go for it!

Steve

I've got a 12" IBM X41 and I love it

Yes, you can get (proper) work done on it!

Yep, if you need high resolution then you'll need a bigger screen. But I would say most people don't.

They both have 1280x800 resolution so you can be just as productive on the 12" version

I know which one I'd choose out of the two. (Agree with Darklord the weight does add up, plus the extra bulk).

The chip is slightly less powerful. The t7500 is 2.2GHZ and has 4MB LV2 cache as opposed to 2Ghz and 2MB lv2 cache in the one you mention (which uses the t5750 chip).

You will be paying a £150 more for twice the ram, a better graphics card and some more HDD space.

Depends what you need it for, but personally if I was to buy one of the two it would be the one in the OP as I think it's pretty decent spec for £349. voted hot.

Recently been looking into these models (the 5920G's)

See my post for a quick price comparing summary for the three main flavours ]here

Also that laptop is cheaper at amazon by £10 than ebuyer too if you're seriously thinking about it.

As per above comments though the processor in this 5720 deal is better than the one in the 5920.

Sorry it's a good deal but I can't vote this hot as it's been at this price for nearly two months now as per ]here and ]here

Although the new £13 off code makes it a better deal than before....the same benefit is had with that code for anything over £90 at Tesco Direct at the minute.

I have an X21 12" (1024x768) and while I bought it for carrying around the low res is a hindrance when I'm used to 1280x1024 at home or 2x 1280x1024 at work. it only becomes a hindrance if you're used to working with much greater screen real estate; you will always feel restricted going backwards. I now essentially use it as a netbook at home!

Like I said though, it's not size but resolution.

On a quick glance the Tosh has more RAM but a weaker CPU. I suspect the Acer has a marginally better graphics chip too, but I don't really keep up to date on low-end laptop graphics chips!

Considering laptop is easily and cheaply upgraded and it's cheaper in the first place, I'd go with the Acer (even if it is a bit ugly once opened up). However, I'm suggesting that without seeing either in person where you'd be able to check screen, keyboard and tracker quality.

thank you - have just ordered one for christmas, voted hot :-)
