Seems a decent deal

You need to list the price paid i.e. the price before cashback

MY BAD. 3 year warranty makes this super-hot

Apart from that not bad for an i3 (poor battery, integrated graphics) but is does have HDMI. And 2% discount with Quidco.

Also the deal price is a bit misleading you have to purchase it for £399.98 and then claim by registered post and then wait for over a month to get the £100 back, PLUS delivery is £7 odd and another £15 for a recovery disk

Decent deal! But the price in the title is misleading.

anyone get cashback from them b4?
very tempted but cash back isnt guaranteed,

I'm also very tempted, just the cashback bit putting me off.

As long as you complete the claim form between 14 and 30 days from the date of invoice and supply proof of purchase you'll be fine - it's not quidco/topcashback - it's from the company

That is some nasty cashback. Good luck getting that £100. Has to arrive within a 15 day period by registered post and they can cancel or refuse to pay at a whim. Plus the free warranty might invalidate the £100 cashback (read the T&Cs).

Also nice 10p/minute customer service they have. Personally I'd prefer to pay the extra £79.99 and buy it from Amazon. At least I know with them if there is a problem with my £300+ purchase they will work with me rather than against me.

It's an Acer, you'll probably need it. Had three acer machines in the family and all have died within a relatively short period. Ts & Cs seem a bit off-putting as others have suggested and all.

WTYFREE is saying invalid promocode.

Avoid cashback schemes like this, they rely on people not/forgetting to claim. Op needs to amend price. COLD

Sigh. No, if you use the laptop sensibly (which is to say, you don't drop it, kick it about, slam the lid down in rage every time someone blocks you on Facebook, don't use it on a surface that'll cover the airvents, and don't install every hilarious emoticon pack and PC Omptimizer 2011 suite advertised to you in popup ads), it will last as well as any other.

I have had an Aspire 3680 for nearly 3 years, and it was second hand when I bought it, really cannot fault it

if you think you'll get your cashback from laptopsdirect, then more fool you.

Seems hot if cashback pays. My laptop always seem to die after 13 months so seriously considering this.

I think you'll get the cashback (assuming you meet the T&C's). The company seems bouyant so if they don't pay there's always the small claims court.

yes but you have to be stupid to forget to claim, voted HOT

I have noticed Acer's build quality and laptop range have improved massively and become far more desirable within the past year.

Lots of negative comments on reviewcentre.com/rev…tml

I really need a laptop, and now I'm in dilemma. Should I use laptopsdirect or not?

Went through most of the comments. And it seems that the laptopdirects are showing the items in stock despite not having one. I'll better stay away with this company. Thanks anyways.

VERY HOT!! this is the best 15.6" i3 offer i ve seen on hotdeals, very tempted but i've got the packard bell i3 desktop due for delivery tomorrow, but thats a refurb with only 3months warranty,
think i'll resell on ebay and get this acer laptop.

Andy, you're a mod, surely you know the rules for posting cashback/future money back deals?

The listed price must be for the money you pay at the time, with any subsequent cashback then also mentioned as part of the deal.

Or have the rules for posting deals like this changed?

PS. excellent deal for an i3 laptop with 3 year warranty BTW, heat added.

Ehhhh, is the 5742 not the Acer model with just one speaker?? You also get a 5742Z I think.

I've read a load of reviews and comments recently re Acer, both positive and negative, but my 5741 is going back to Techfurb this week. It's a nice machine but within a week or two of getting it, the mouse pad stopped working for 2 or 3 days, them magically started working again and has been ok since. But I've also had several blue screens, and several black ones too, the most recent just last night!

I was very tempted by another but from Argos refurb, but I've ordered an Asus from Amazon instead.

My brother bought a similar laptop for £370 recently so I would say good deal

That's odd nanjo; just tried again - I added the 3 year warranty LINK ; then the computer; then added code; it removed the £100 then I removed the three bits of twaddle and code was still active. I'm using Firefox (if that makes any difference)

Is it the same as THIS ONE Just wondering if the Z on the end makes it different.

:edit: Looks like this one is not an I3. . . does this make a big difference.. it will only be used for school kids home work and I really can't be bothered with Cashback billy.

Edited by: "JP" 6th Mar 2011

Cold - Can get a quarter of a MacBook Pro for that price.

Very bad reviews on this company, selling email addresses, bad after service and cold calling. Do not think its worth the risk for cash-back or warranty, good deal on price if cash paid back.

Well thanks for your concern but in terms of the machines I've had the misfortune to work with, they're cheap and cheerful for a reason. I'm not entirely sure how you've linked software faults/end user customisation to my perception of Acer products, but the build quality/QC of the hardware is poor without playing hot potato with it.

First laptop I mentioned died - (ended up using the screen as a transplant for a Compaq laptop with a faulty LCD panel and transplanted the 80GB hard drive elsewhere so not all lost at least).

Second machine was a cheap desktop, had 2 1/2 years out of it so not too bad in retrospect but still not great life expectancy. Worked fine for that period then suddenly wouldn't even POST (think onboard video had died).

Third one was the mother in law's laptop (bought Aug 2010), faulty dvd drive from brand new that would spin up but never read disks. Acer's guideline was to reformat the OS, which is akin to telling someone with a knackered engine that they should clean their car seats to resolve it. Luckily with a bit of persuasion Tesco gave a full refund (wasn't prepared to waste further time with Acer's 1st tier support).

Never installed any **** to them, only ever used for Office/web browsing and I take care of electrical items. They're a good price but I'm not the first and I'll certainly not be the last to have had hardware issues with them. Not to say everyone will have a problem but from my experience I wouldn't recommend them, would pay the extra for a Dell or HP if wanting a Windows machine.
