explain the cold votes, is it cheaper elsewhere?

I didn't vote cold but it's an acer - all the styling of an old school skoda

these new aspire gemstones are better quality then any acer b4.. however laptopsdirect have this same price with 1GB turbomemory

No way should this be cold, but it's a premium laptop with a price to match. People vote anything costing more than £500 as cold. What they are missing are the following:

* Geforce Go 8600GT so games are playable.
* HD-DVD drive. Need I say more? Take into account the £100 you would need to spend to get a standalone one.
* 250GB HDD. Largest drive you can get in a laptop. Again, £150 OEM.
* HDMI output
* Santa Rosa platform. Better performance, better power comsumption.

@ chris_b - i edited the title, as it was very long, and some was cut off, plus I added a spec to the OP.

This is a HOT deal. You will not get a HD-DVD drive or 250gb hard drive with ANY other laptop in this price bracket. Even Dell cant beat this price.

Great deal, hd dvd drive and hdmi output, and the new Gemstones are quality IMHO, Laptops Direct these are their top sellers. Voted warm. Check out laptops direct.

I got mine from Laptops Direct a little while ago. I too was an Acer sceptic and had always bought Dells, but this laptop is awesome, highly recommend it for Gaming too

Only warm from me as the specs are good but cos ive had only trouble from acer its preventing me from hitting the hot button.

but you can get a dell with 17inch screen with the same spec for around £650 delivered.. (with 9 cell battery)..

No you cant. The dell one doesn't have a hd-dvd drive, the hdmi output a 250gb hdd or the Vista Home Premium.

But why do you actually need a HD-DVD drive on a laptop at the moment? Its in its early stages and its media is very expensive and not really worth it for a laptop.

Thats why it has a HDMI output. Plug it into your HD telly and bang! HD-DVD player!

Cost is £789.99 on website. Even better deal:-D
