Just checked and this model is OK for a windows 7 Upgrade through Acer (cost about £17) :-)

Just got my daughter a laptop from PC World for £399 with better spec and Windows 7 already installed

Sorry to be negative. I usually try not to be, but there really are better deals out there

Have you got a link?

yep, anyone now buying a top(ish) spec laptop should really remember to include a Bluray drive and HDMI out when comparing prices/specs.

personally also looking for a gaming and Bluray capable laptop, this deal seems pretty good (but as usual will get bashed by Acer haters), any other good deals about for around £400?

hi ppl...i just got an acer aspire 5542 from argos for £399....and its great!

This is a good deal, blu ray and dedicated graphics for this price is good. The only thing thats stopping me is the brand. People have different experiences with different brands so some people will like this. I've just heard too many negatives around Acers.

Is this HP a better deal from pc world? have reserved one to collect today but will cancel and get this if better? I know some people say about acer build quality but a guy at work who used to work in an IT role says all his family etc use acers and never had a problem?

Thats the one I have reserved which is £399 plus the 3% quidco which has already tracked

...or this one from Argos

doesn't include bluray, but has 4GB RAM and 9600GT graphics for £449. What sets these apart from most of the £399 jobs is the dedicated graphics card, worth the extra £40 to £50 in my mind.

Ref Yorksbabe - the 5542 with ATI4200 graphics is good and if you bought it in the last few days, did you know its £379 (national paper ad), the staff in Argos wasn't even aware of the extra discount when my neighbour went to buy his 5542, he had to ask for the manager to get the extra discount! After doing the erecovery disks I then spent a few hours getting rid of all the bloatware (acer stuff, norton, mcafee, MS office trial etc.). Its now a much faster laptop and runs really well - quite impressed.

A word of warning re this laptop - Argos description states you may receive a substitute of the same specification.

I ordered this machine and received a 6935G - has CineDash Media Console on left of keyboard in lieu of numberpad, and has 9600M GS 512MB Graphics, NOT 9600m GT 1GB.

Still great value, but appears to be OOS anyway.

It has a •AMD Turion X2 RM-72 dual core processor. with only 1mb L2 i wouldnt bother paying more for this when you can get the OP for less witha Core 2 Duo and 2Mb L2 which makes a massive difference also the Graphics are better on the OP.

Alos guys the one i posted its DDR3 1066Ram! and so is the Graphics card.

Only one advise......don't buy acer. This message is being posted from one of these machine. I have two of them 7720 G and 5920. In last one year both have been sent for repair twice.
