I bought one of these on Friday as the price was absolutely fantastic for what you get, as I was looking for a decently priced GAMING Laptop and the 9600M GT (with 1Gb memory) plays most of today's games fairly well and movies were very nice on the HD screen (I bought it mostly for Warcraft though).
The graphics card ranks at 43 on this table notebookcheck.net/Mob…tml
and the processor at 58 notebookcheck.net/Mob…tml
So if you know of another deal, please take a look at the charts and see if it beats this machine, which I don't think it will in terms of price to value.

The Aspire 6930G features the Gemstone design and a stunning 16' Acer CineCrystal wide screen display which makes movies and images comes to life. Powerful enough to handle multiple tasks with ease, this notebook can be enjoyed by the whole family.

My Review:
Visual is very good.
Battery life is quite good (I mostly use it plugged in so cant comment)
Sound is surprisingly good, has a subwoofer and a virtual surround sound system
DVD Drive is very responsive and the burner was solid.
Not much heat on the lap
Only complaint would be the time it took to boot up after you shut down (took about 30seconds), so I normally leave it on standby now.

It may show as "out of stock" in a lot of places but look at a few other locations a bit further out and you might get luck (I know Hounslow and Hayes still have some in stock).

I have read it and never voted it hot and you dont know who did.

let me summarise.
this is a good value 'bang for buck' machine so maybe worth buying....but wait before slapping reply button with your fists!!!...
this is not the cheapest price for it so would not recommend buying from argos
also if was full HD model at this price it probably would be cheapest and so a hot deal
the end.

edit: though actually looking at these cheaper sources they are not the same product and have lower ram so well done

I can't find anything with this level of graphics card for similar money. Sure there are similar Acer Aspire 6930G's with lesser graphics cards for similar (and in some cases a lot less) money but nothing with this kind of graphics.

Still, wouldn't be my choice as, in particular, the screen resolution is a bit ****. Would be better with a Bluray drive as well.

Find me a cheaper laptop with this graphics card?

OP - can you confirm it really does have this graphics card and it's not an Argos typo? And can you find out how much memory is on-board and how much is shared hypermemory?

First compare those laptops and than write a replay.
Because it says Acer 6930G on both sites it doesn't mean it's the same spec.
Kikatek £506.97 laptop has worse processor and much slower graphics card

Laptopsdirect
To sum it up: You won't find cheaper Acer 6930G with this spec anywhere. You won't find dearer either... cause only Argos has this specs at the moment. But it's a RRP

That's probably Argos being a little lazy. As I understand it this graphics card has dedicated on-board memory and can make use of shared system memory upto 1GB.

Can you find a cheaper nvidia 9600M GT equipped laptop?

Banned

most of the graphics cards are only 512mb, and all of argos in scotland is out of stock

Pretty much what I'd guessed - It's best to compare specs before posting negative comments on a deal and a link to any better deal you might find is always appreciated ;-)

Why would you spend 1/3 of the value of the machine on a 3 year warranty? Once your first 12 months run out the chances are you could replace the whole thing for half the original cost. You would be better of spending the money on an insurance policy for it if you are that way inclined, at least then you are covered for things like theft and accidental damage.

True,
than if something breaks down your laptop can be stolen or dropped

This includes breakdown bit not theft but i agree you need some kind of insurance,Check ebay
and see how many spares or repair laptops there are that have developed a fault out of warranty, A friend of mine had his sony headphone sockets stop working ,£532 for a motherboard,So now he just uses it without sound,

people please search before you post a deal this was found over 3 weeks ago by jadefox^^^^. the specs are as posted on argos if u want to read my review here it is posted inside jadefox's topic hotukdeals.com/ite…=19

Also, pointless posting a deal that doesn't seem to be in stock anywhere.

I think this card has 256 Mb dedicated and the rest shared.

Just bought the higher spec model, 6935g from Comet, Its £749,99 (one of the best deals out there from a recognised high street retailer - important if you need to get a refund) but you get a 9600M GT Graphics card, Blu Ray drive and TV tuner and 7,200 rpm HDD drive as well.

Have to agree with some of the coments here on specs. Acer specs displayed on all the websites are a bit misleading, always best to check out the full part number on the Acer web site for details of what you get with each model. Part numbers tend to be something like AS6930G-944G32Bn and have subtle suffixes like LX.ATQ0X.038

The 6930 here may well have a different graphics card to the one advertised here. Be careful you aren't getting a 9200, 9300, 9500 or 9600 GS, all of which are slower than the 9600 GT.

As the screen spec, although its not 1080 HD, 720 HD is more than enough for most on a laptop.

If its definately the 9600 GT then you are getting a pretty reasonable deal.

i wouldnt buy anthing like this from argos as we recently brought a tv open the box ect plugged the thing in wouldnt tune at all so next am brought back to shop the reply"sorry you cant have a refund as you have opened the packaging" this was for the remote now i explained how could you open test the tv without opening the remote to see if it works. Then they said there is abattery missing obviously there wasnt as they were both in the remote she just didnt see two when she opened the remote, in the end they sent the tv locallyy to be tested took 3 weeks afterwards the man dropped it back said its fine so i told him to come in and prove it...........................................................................AND IT STILL WASNT WORKING..........................
after much annoyance we settled on a gift card which we intend to dell on ebay lol

Can anyone confirm 64bit Vista or not?

Othwise that 1GB video card is going to leave you with only 2.5GB of system RAM available from the installed 4GB

You shouldnt have taken that. It was faulty - you were entitled to a full refund regardless of whether anything was open.

Personally, Id have got the muppet on the till to either make way for a manager, or to call their customer services line.

You certainly don't need to be looking at any three year warranty which costs a third as much as the entire laptop !
Think about it this way : For every three sold, they've covered the cost of an entire replacement machine. But do you think the 3-year failure rates on a modern laptop are anywhere near 1 in 3 ? Of course not.

There's no need to spend a single penny - theft and accidental damage are already covered on your home contents insurance. Contact your insurer to find out their terms though, as you'll often have to "specify" portable items in your policy (and there may be a nominal charge). This also applies to Mobile Phones - it's amazing how many people sign up to the "Insurance" packages from the operators, without knowing they're already covered !

You appear to have a serious chip on your shoulder sir. I don't aim to claim that I have a better laptop than anyone else, I merely posted this deal as its "A GOOD PRICED LAPTOP FOR WHAT YOU GET IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A GAMING LAPTOP" and "I WAS LOOKING TO BUY A NEW LAPTOP". Is that clear now?
Having looked through your post history, whatsThePoint, you come across as a serial cold-voter and whiner. I really feel sorry for you...

Matto, I can confirm that it is 9600M GT with 1GB memory inside! It's insane cos the upgraded version in Argos foe £200 more is only 512MB. I dunno what went wrong there, but who cares! It's a steal

For all the whiners who said it's been posted before, I did a search for it with every combination of the laptop model possible and couldn't find any which is why I've posted it here. Besides, who looks at deals 3 weeks old?

the search function in here is possibly the worst i have ever seen - really needs to be fixed before people start going on about 3 week old deals.

Just type 6930G into the search and youll see it, Acer, Gemstone...

Why would you bother coming onto this thread if you've seen the same deal on here before? Judging by the other responses, most people haven't seen it before and I have to agree with that person who said the search on here is dreadful.

That did make me laugh when I first saw the deal posted - it straight-away went hotter then your deal - as you say it's all about timing - this deal heated up even though the inital comments were (rightly?) luke-warm - so not fair

P.S. I personally don't get too fussed when people innocently duplicate deals - so thanks delmontebanana - but it is a pain as the reviews and comments get spread between the postings

how about this one it doesn't have the 9600m gs but has a radeon hd3650 wich is not far of & has a blu ray player
