Currently searching for a cheap but reasonably specced laptop and this one comes out pretty well compared to some of the others I've checked out especially at the price.

If you think there are better deals please let me know don't just vote cold .. I am genuinely interested in getting a good deal myself ..

Not bad at all for the price, acer build quality can be hit n miss.

Slow HDD will bottleneck this unfortunately but it's ripe for an SSD upgrade and drop the 750gb HDD into a cheap caddy.

Thanks for the feedback

If price is your deciding factor there's a 2nd gen i3 (HP) for about £350 with £100 cash back. Ideal browsing / student machine.

The biggest plus on this Acer is newer 3rd gen i5, so HT for 4 cores and HD4000 gfx which are OK for basic 3d gaming.

I had been looking at another Acer laptop with an i3 3110m processor, 8GB Ram and 750 GB Hard drive for £399. I know the i5 3230 is a bit better processor but the other system has double the RAM (8GB rather than 4GB) but is £20 more .. it all seems a bit too confusing. I'm not really bothered about gaming but I do work the laptop hard running multiple applications etc.

Ram can be upgraded easily - cpu can't - so get the i5.

4gb stick of ram will cost you about £20, can be fitted in 2mins.

OK .. thanks for the info and advice ..

np, if you multi task then the i5 will give you Hyper threading for 4 cores (if 3rd gen is same as 2nd) - i3's are only dual core - obv 4 real cores are better still but thats big $$.

If this lappy supports it then sell the 4gb stick and put a single 8gb in now, then when prices inevitably drop add a 2nd 8gb stick.

i5 will be fine with an 8gb stick, acer suggests this lappy supports 8gb max - i'd be surprised if it didn't recognise 16 though.

Thanks again ...

Add i5 4GB DDR3 HDMI to the title for a more temperate reception
