I'm looking for an all-round great family laptop that's good at most things. Is this it?

Not bad, but I think I'd rather pay an extra £50 for the E5-571, which is on offer again at £250 on the same site and has an i3 processor instead - I don't need or want more than about 500gb of storage myself....

"Quad Core"

I love marketing speak

More accurate

"A budget choice for watching cat videos, the E5-521's 15.6-inch display (1366x768p resolution) projects mediocre visuals in barely acceptable quality"

i got an hp laptop with a4 chip and its more than capable in handling daily tasks i.e. watching YouTube and kodi and daily words and excel

E5-571 is a better option

If you re after "great family laptop" then you may spend a bit more. This one will do for most people.

I have full HD on all my devices, and some cost less than this. Of course a good laptop will cost a bit more.

Bought the e5-551 the other day for £249, fantastic little laptop for the price. But this one not so much. If possible increase your budget by 50 and get a much better spec laptop.

The 1336 x 768 screen is more than adequate to watch movies / play games. The video quality is surprisingly good (though the e5-551 has the radon r6 graphics)

There was a noted issue with noise within the video background. There's a firmware update on Acers website. Aswell as an general improvement update.

The screen is a slight let down, have to get the viewing angle right and it's very reflective.

Very easy to upgrade to fresh windows 10 now.

This A6 is actually not that weak, better than I expected. I have seen A6 a lot weaker. Should be good enough for normal usage, FHD movie, office and internet browsing.

If you can get i3 at similar price, go for the i3. But do not pay a lot more for an i3.

Tesco direct this week is doing laptop sales. It had brand new i3 for £150 on Thursday which sold out on the same day. The better deals seems to be out of stock very quickly.

Hi, do you know what model number the i3 for £150 please. I'm looking for a laptop around the £200 and have seen lots of Acer and Asus ones from tesco on here lately but I'm baffled as to which one is the best to get. I only need it for office work, watching Vids, browsing internet, emailing etc. I understand about ram and hard drive sizes but processors confuse me.

For your usage, I normally recommend lower CPU + small sized SSD if storage is not an issue for you. (such as do not store movies in the laptop, store externally) Together they keep the costs down and give you the maximum performance in the cost.

You can get i3 + SSD for £250 for consumer laptop today, £280 for business laptop today.

Or you could go for this laptop at £200.

I have not owned an Acer for a long time now and have not heard much comments about Acer. I can only compare them based specs, I cannot tell belong that about their quality.

Also each model normally have different versions with different specs, unless you give the links and prices, I cannot compare.
