How is the Processor? Pants:@ 1.60GHz Average CPU Bench mark 1872

it's built to a price £230 that's why, some people don't need anymore than that so why buy a more expensive machine.

I think if you know enough to look up the rating for this cpu it's probably not fast enough for you

It's a great price for a bit of office, Facebook & shopping on

its 8GB of massive ram... plays major role in processing power

Would this be better than the HP laptop they are selling for £209?

yes bigger hard drive and extra ram is worth the extra £20. Ignore dippy earlier the processor is fine for usual use, Facebook, Internet browsing, kids homework etc . You would not buy this for gaming so unsure of the processor comment.

I got a budget of 350£ and can't seem to find anything better than the HP 250 g4 for 300£. Anyone able to help?

Good deal. I've been thinking about getting a laptop for awhile now.

Same here- I have a similar budget and want something with a decent processing speed but they are either low budget or way above my budget. There's nothing in between. Anyone?

I am also looking for a new sub £300 latop, the link below seems to be the best spec on here, but I am still holding out for something. I find it telling that my 3 year old £280 laptop has a better processor than most of the stuff on here, I would expect a modest increase in processor speed but I am seeing the same i3 or lower at this price point. The intel processor in this tesco latoptop is very underpowered, but for the price we can't complain.

We bought the dual core 4gb spec Acer for Christmas it's pretty delayed/slow will tesco accept this back or will they refuse due to not being faulty?..

Bought for my daughter for xmas think it's past that now, guessing that is the issue if buying for gifts..

Which would be best please, this laptop or a Lenovo Flex 2 14" Convertible Touchscreen Laptop 1.90GHz 6GB 1TB HDD with a i3 processor?

Bought the HP 250 G4 for my son for Christmas. Looks great so far. I did loads of research and was best I could find for that price. i5 processor...decent spec.

Is this really LCD? Thought most were LED now. Disappointing if it is.

Are most not just LED backlit? I think LED screens are still quite expensive.

Depends on the generation of i3. Generally i3 is much better than the offer but costs more but the gfx are good for multimedia but not so great on high settings of games where it you'll need a gaming laptop.

This laptop is great for the basic home user. Need more power or a business user/odd movie processing or watching 4K - i3.

Heavy Gaming/processing lots of movie data in HD? i5 plus additional dedicated gaming gpu.

I would buy this for basic users or people with a games console.

Heat.

Personally though there is nothing wrong with the above the N3700 processor is a bit weak if I was looking for a bare bones Windows 10 machine for casual use I'd look elsewhere. For the same budget you could get:

http://www.ebuyer.com/725713-hp-255-g4-laptop-n0z75ea-abu

The AMD processor in that is a little stronger, has more capabilities and the built in graphics is considerably stronger. As for the comment on 8GB of RAM playing a massive role in processing power that's just plain wrong. Having RAM is important but nothing to do with processing power whatsoever. It allows you to run more demanding programs and should cut down on the amount of swapping to disk but for the requirements above 4GB is fine.

As for the £300 to £350 budget above you could go for:

http://www.ebuyer.com/723849-hp-probook-455-g3-laptop-p5t06ea-abu

That's £340 for a far superior machine.

If you have a spare copy of windows lying around you can go for:

http://www.ebuyer.com/705955-hp-455-quad-core-laptop-l8b56es

That's £300 for effectively the same machine but only comes with Ubuntu not Windows. With the money you save from your budget go to your local computer store and get them to replace the cr@ppy 1TB drive with a 240GB SSD drive and you will have a relative flying machine on a really tight budget. Not capable of the latest games but certainly will play most older titles quite easily. An SSD is the most cost effective upgrade of a system you can do.

BTW for the computer geeks out there I'm not an AMD fanboy by any means but at the budget level the AMD APU's do offer better value for money, just avoid the A4's the A10's in particular are great value for money at the moment.

For £229 this is a real good buy and for anything at this price I ain't seen anything better, if you want to play high end games spend some more but for the price this is a great deal.

Can you explain how a 240GB SSD can replace a 1TB HDD....it looks like its a quarter the capacity to a layman like me!

It is still a replacement though. A faster one with less space. Nothing speeds up browsing and basic stuff like an SSD does.

Compare the cpu's

http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Pentium-N3700-vs-Intel-Core-i3-4005U

http://ark.intel.com/m/products/87261/Intel-Pentium-Processor-N3700-2M-Cache-up-to-2_40-GHz#@product/specifications

On paper it looks as the Pentium uses less power and has a faster gpu and more cache per core, faster cpu but has less advanced coding features which you probably won't need. Limited to 8gb. Hence the price.

If it was me I would avoid the i3 4th generation for longer battery life with N3700.

In a nutshell it's a cheap laptop that will do basic things well. Use for several years minimum then sell. It will last longer if you look after it anyway.

I still have an i3 2nd gen. I didn't upgrade as there has not been a big jump in update specs except graphics.

Go for the basics and throw away after a few years use or sell to a student etc.

He means the smaller SSD is faster than the bigger 1Tb mechanical drive. The computer will feel snappier and load quickly.

I did the same and put the **** driver in a USB caddy for storage. I can shake my laptop without worrying about the drive lol

But you don't need to buy a SSD, this laptop is a buy, use and throw away without upgrading. Maybe add the SSD in 3 years.

Not surprised it was slow - you bought a different model with Intel Celeron!

Unless you've pasted the wrong laptop spec by accident.

This is cpu competes with the i3.

Best have a play in PC world/Tesco store then cheekily order online?

led is just led back-lit lcd, oled and amoled are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay outta this price range

folks, how much time do you spend on a laptop?
why not just save abit more and get a minimum i3 4th gen, they are around £270
8gb ram is just a gimmick, 4gb is more than enough for the casual user.
I dont think you just buy a pentium no matter what it costs, its just not capable and you'll be frustrated
