decent machine, picked one up from comet for the same price. To those who are thinking of upgrading within the near future, the machine only has 2 dimm slots for ram so max is 4gb, the graphics card is a 8600gts 512mb and theres a onboard geforce 7100 with hdmi aswell.

There are seals on the back of machine saying if broken warranty is void. So far tho i have been able to run assasins creed, crysis and command and conquer 3 on the machine fine abeit not on high on crysis tho.
The machine itself is very quite aswell and overall a great purchase for the price.

*hint* also i havent been sucessful installing windows xp on this machine as the hardrive is a sata one and the drivers are not on the windows disk.

great deal, voted hot

Get N-Lite and go to driverpacks.net and slipstream the SATA drivers

Hot. Better than any Dell deal i've seen in ages.

Voted Hot here .....very good deal i am seriously thinking of buying one of these for my sons Xmas Pressy.

thanks effortless... will give this ago as the sata drivers from the acer site didnt work when i slipstreamed them.

EEEZ NICE!!!

Voted hot.

But looks like the GFX card is only a Geforce 7-series - at least two generations out of date. Never mind, it's still good for the price.

This Dell offer (D104119) gives quite a good deal for £325 delivered - slightly worse spec, but gives you a few options (and I'd swap out the gfx card straight away on either model anyway)......sorry, just I have little faith in ACER, though I'm well aware a lot don't like Dell either!

configure.euro.dell.com/del…757

i doubt youd be able to build a better machine cheaper the processor alone retails over £100

Its cheap for sure I just dont like the fact you cant open the case without invalidating your warranty.

I think I would rather be able to tinker and have better warranty support with Dell to be perfectly honest. It cheap but not cheap enough all things considered.

Also with the exception of memory, this pc is only around £70 cheaper than a dell xps I got earlier on in the year with a much better graphics card. Overall the spec does not seem any better really...

I find this hard to believe, the graphics card is a geforce 8600GTS.

I also went to Dells' site and configured the lowest spec XPS with equivalent settings and the overall price hits 700£ INCLUDING shipping and vat. So you got some bargain deal and the VAT and shipping charges must have disappeared!!!!

PROCESSOR Intel® Processor Q6600 Quad Core™ (2.40GHz, 1066Mhz FSB, 8MB cache)
OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium SP1 - English
MEMORY 3072MB 800MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x1024/2x512]
HARD DRIVE 500GB Dual Hard Drive Raid 0 Stripe (2x250GB - 7200rpm)
GRAPHICS CARD 512MB ATI® Radeon® 3870 Graphics card

This deal is 350£ dead, no extra charges.

It does't say anything about the dvd writer and only 1 PCI slot? surely you would need at least 2 just in case you need to add something later.

Just picked one of these up from Comet as wanted a machine asap. It's about 20 quid more in there though. It's a decent machine - as mentioned before it's very quiet and tidy unit - great for the price. Some things to note:

1) It's a GeForce 8600GS card (note the GS NOT GTS). This is basically an OEM GT card.
2) There is no wireless on it
3) The HDMI slot has a stud plate over it. No idea why but doesn't look like they are expecting you to use it.

Not bothered about the warenty myself as I'll be butchering the unit anyway but it has got a sticker over the back. For 350 quid you can't really go wrong.

Jonner can you confirm there is only 1 pci slot?

Sorry not had chance to open it up yet - there are 4 spacers at the back - one of which the GC is in. I'd be very suprised if there is only 1 PCI slot as it would mean the motherboard was either very small and doesn't even fit up to the sides of the case (if you see what I mean) or it just had huge chunks of nothingness.

Will try and post back when I've had chance to open it up.

Any news Jonner..... i'm very interested...

Sorry for the delay - been super busy!

There are 2 spare PCI slots on the motherboard. However the MB is pretty small and the second one is pretty close to the graphics card so if you wanted to put a bulky card in there you might struggle.

Also if you want manuals and CD's etc then look elsewhere - you basically get a restore CD and a startup guide in 422 different languages and that's it!

Hi all,
I'm very interested in getting one of these to use as a HTPC. I've already bought a Pioneer Blu-ray drive: ebuyer.com/pro…748, model number BDC-S02 so I'd really like to know for sure that this drive will work in this PC.
Jonner, if you have time, would you mind confirming that:
1. there's a spare SATA port
2. there's physically enough space in the case
3. there's a spare power cable
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Dave
PS I bought the Blu-ray drive to test drive another PC which I didn't end up buying

Ordered one yesterday - I have been looking for the right deal for over 2 months now and this appears to be perfect for what I need (photo & video editing) thanks to the original poster for the find.

Just hope I can learn to live with Vista now!

I bought one and I am well happy with it..... no probs so far.

I found this spec sheet for the M3641: acer.co.uk/pub…402
Obviosuly it`s not the M3640 but I can`t find anything on it.

Can anyone tell me if this has S/PDIF sound output and if so, what sort of S/PDIF ports it has? i.e Optical, co-axial or both.

I`d like to use this as a HTPC with an internal Blu-ray drive and an external A/V receiver and so need to know if there`s S/PDIF since you don`t get any sound over DVI. The 8600 GS has a VGA port, an S-Video port and a DVI port from what I could see at my local Comet store. I forgot to look for S/PDIF ports when I visited the store.

My guess is that the HDMI port will only work if you select in BIOS the mother board video card (prob a 7100) instead of the PCI-X Nvidia 8600 GS. Can anyone confirm this is the case?

Cheers,

Dave

From the 4th search page on google

acer.co.ae/pub…992

Mine arrived today - dead chuffed with it so far - a lot of PC for the cash - I spent £1,300 last year on a custom build top of the range dual core - this beats it marginally!

Maybe not a gamers dream spec but it handle photos & video a treat.

£350 notes for a cracking editing pc - I'm more than happy!

Voted smoking red hot - better spec than Dell's £400 machine.

Has anyone who has one of these confirmed the HDMI or would I be better off buying a new graphics card?

Also, I just bought one for £220 from Dabs. Might be worth watching their used stock and purchasing on credit card for extra warrenty.

Hi Monkey

It does indeed have HDMI, however I haven't used it so can't 100% confirm but the socket is there!

Old thread i know, has anyone got an internal pic of the motherboard please, been offered this PC and wondering if it will be suitable.
