So does that mean no one can post the dell mini 9 until it gets to £98?

Get real - 85p cheaper in a deal over a month ago (now expired). Isn't the point to find and post the cheapest current deals?

It comes to about £162 if you use Topcashback

Think I would rather pay a few quid extra and get the 120gb Hard Drive version. . I got an extra 1gb RAM for a tenner and also installed XP from a USB stick. Nice netbook and runs lots faster than the eeePC. I recently installed some software on a eeePC for a friend, it was the celeron900 version, and once you got windows live messenger and a virus killer running, it slowed to a crawl.

Incidentally, most of the 120gb versions now have 160gb drives in them, so acer must have run out of 120's

There is a typo in the description. The OS is Linpus Lite, not Linux Lite.

Linpus Lite is based on Fedora Linux but with an EEE PC style tabbed interface.

Just to clarify that the Eee 901 and onwards are Atom-based, like this machine, and will have similar performance.

And of course you won't need to install anti-virus on it if you don't install Windows.

AFAIK £215.30 inc VAT Comet (£206.68 if use topcash). I also read somewhere that might be cheaper if use virgin credit card to buy comet vouchers at a discount.

Suppose I go into Comet & buy one of these. How do you know if it has a 160GB drive without powering it up to find out? (doing that would mean I invalidate their returns policy and couldn't return it at no cost).

Is it marked on the box or is it pot luck that it has a 160GB drive rather than a 120GB. AFAIK Acer sell a genuine 160GB version which is more expensive. Getting a 160GB drive for a 120GB version price would be a good deal!

Best Regards... Ian

Hi
FYI I bought the 160gb/1gb version from Amazon just before xmas for £199. I like the unit but will be switching to xp. Also the battery life is short (approx 90 mins). A higher capacity battery is approx £50.
Hope this helps in your decision making.#
Regards
Wayne

according to the cnet review it has a SIM card slot behind the battery for 3g stuff. anyone confirm?

How much longer does the HDD version take to boot ?
The whole Idea of Solid State Disks is the boot time aint it ? Supposed to be 15 seconds...

Not quite the whole idea... the lack of any moving parts is a significant point too.

I bought one from Play.com before christmas, the box was marked 120gb but had a 160gb, I then bought another one 3 weeks later and this was the same. . . marked 120 but contained 160

I got mine for £179 from play.com with about £4.80 quidco too. the 1gb of Ram cost £10 from play.com and took about 15mins to install. . .

Incidentaly, I bought the Linpus Lite version and installed XP. this developed a fault, and I returned it. . they checked it out and sent me a new one, but didnt mention that it had XP on it.

I just mentioned this as people are generally worried about stuff invalidating the warranty. As far as the RAM upgrade goes, there is a proper SODIMM slot inside for upgrades, so I am sure if anyone stood their ground, their warranty claim couldnt be denied. . .

That's Linpus Lite, not the fact it's got a solid-state disk.

It has the physical slot but none of the electronics to go with it.
