I was in Asda Coatbridge store last night picking up the 10mp sanyo camera on special offer, when i saw a sign advertising the Acer aspire one was back in stock, spoke to the assistant and she said there where loads in a pallet out the back.

hope this help's anyone in the area who missed out before, may be store specific so don't vote cold just because it's not near you. i have a picture on my phone i'll upload later for proof.

Store phone number 01236 430 500.

good luck Mark.

Anyone know if this is nationwide?

Checked Cardiff Coryton store lunch time, and nothing in there! so best of luck to the rest of you out there looking!!

Just checked leyton Asda they'v got nothing ..they r only offering samsang Nc10 for 315

If it 160gb then HOT!! the 512 can be upgraded to 1.5gb I have Vista installed and it works great as a backup laptop.

not in walthamstow and bekcton ...toooo i think it might be only in few stores

if there was a sign up perhaps we'll see them appear in the next few days in other stores - here's hoping!

Just picked one up. White with 120gb drive and 512mb ram can confirm. Atom n270 linux 8.9 inch screen. Model number ZG5. Just opened outer box and found out its blue in colour not white.

I popped into the Coatbridge store a short while ago and can confirm these are 512mb 120gb Linux units. Unfortunately not 1gb 160gb units and judging by the sign in store these are just excess stock reduced to clear so probably not a nationwide deal.

Nuts - just noticed the power pin on mine has bost and I've only had it two months. Currently on hold to my local store in Brum to see if they can transfer one as a replacement. Thanks for the info OP.

Guy was gonna change sign when he noticed they were 120gb units.

Check the actual size on disk properties when you fire it up - mine was 120gb until I started it up to find it was 160gb

Yeah I thought it was a bit strange. I looked at the spec on the side of the box (that very box in the pic:p) and it said it had a 120gb drive.

That's the same pic i was gonna post good work in getting one.

so is this only that brighton store?

Will this run Football manager?
is it wireless?

Stick Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.04 on it, makes it a sweet machine.

Coatbridge store, North Lanarkshire, scotland,

Which one?

Look up the system requirements for the game and compare it with what the Acer has:
512MB RAM
8MB onboard graphics (IIRC)
120/160GB hard drive
1.6Ghz Atom processor (IIRC)

I suspect as the Acer only has 8MB graphics memory then it won't be enough to run many games.

and yes, it has inbuilt wireless (802.11b/g - if you need to know :))

edit: also, from that picture - i reckon we can safely assume this isn;t nationwide. "only at your asda Coatbridge"...

Typing from the new acer. Turns out the hard drive is 160gb but the ram is 512mb. Runs sweet with Linpus though.
Keyboard takes a bit of getting used to lol.

Sanyo vcp-e1075 down from £120 to £45 instore had loads of boxes on display,

Cheers mate just what I am looking for!

Thanks Mark, heat added. My daughter got one today! Only blue ones in stock.
Do you know if she can run MSN Messanger from Linux or is there a way around it?

For those keen on this deal but unable to locate one in their local store, you might want to consider it ]here for an extra 18 odd quid which includes delivery.

Note that its a GradeA2 meaning slight cosmetic damage but will be fully working with a 12 month guarantee. Not as good as this Asda deal of course but it might be your next best option if you really want one.

Linux has an app called Pidgeon, which I believe is like MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, all other messengers, in-one.

Thanks for your quick reply Stu,
I will tell her although I trust that the only way of getting MSN is to instal Windows.

Sorry it's called 'Pidgin'. I just checked it and it is compatible with MSN, you just type in your email address and pwd and it brings through all your friends.

All personal preference of course but a WinXP licence cost makes this bargain not so much of a bargain. As for the 'free' Win7, it's not gonna be free for long and then you gotta mess around putting something else on or paying for that. If you don't get on with Linpus and prefer the look/feel of Windows, try ]Ubuntu. It has a 'Windows' look and feel to it, but it's completely free. The world of the free (open source) is rapidly catching on.

There's also a netbook version of Ubuntu available, I just link to the desktop version as it shows screenshots of it in action
