Just checked Tesco because title says Intel Atom N270 and description says N450 but so does their site.

I wonder which one it is?

Just checked Acer's site and it looks like it is the Atom N270

for all those who wants better performance you can try and hunt for 2nd hand Toshiba T110-107 on the flebay or consider that one hotukdeals.com/dea…205

I've got an Aspire One with an N450 processor (532h) which I got for £220 from Sainsburys a while back. It's lovely.

If you can live without the posh packaging of the Acer Aspire (mines a lovely shade of red) then you can get a utilitarian Emachines (owned by Acer) with the same spec as my N450 for £180 from Amazon. Note its Win XP which is a full version rather than Win7 starter. 3 cell batery.

Beware, it doesn't come with full Windows 7 (Win XP would be better than a W7 Starter).

Would this be good for a nearly 9yr old for xmas, was looking at the 250gb version or the mini dell on same site but note sure on specs of processer etc?

Think the Lenovo deal posted the other day is worth the extra 20 quid, Bought one myself.

looks good

The Toshiba T110-121 is £274 (with free external USB DVD Drive) at LaptopsDirect
There is a promotion to get it for £221 (ex vat) that you may be able to get although technically it is an educational offer.

When the Dell zino deal was up from dell refurbs I saw a Dell 1012 mini which had a N450 with XP and 160gb hdd in pearl black, never guess how much, it was 150.00 delivered, with 1 year collect and return.

Just waiting for delivery now, I would watch out for the dell clearance sites, as I heard their refurbs are second to none

great deal

looking for a netbook for my son for xmas...... bought

I got the this machine with the N450 processor for £183 off at Amazon a month ago. It was cheap because it was pink! but it's for my girlfriends xmas present and she's very girly so she better love it. ..... wish I got it for xmas myself! I better get something good in return

Why better? Any particular reason you prefer XP over W7 starter for a netbook given that few if any at this price will have full W7?

[quote= a utilitarian Emachines (owned by Acer) [/quote]
I thought Acer were a cheap brand anyway? Whatever must E machines be like? Maybe made of cardboard and powered by Pentium 3's?

And what on earth will a 9 year old want with a 250Gb HDD. Have you any idea just how much storage that is? The vast majority of people only use 10-20% of their 250Gb HDD's. I'd recommend you spent any extra on a 6 cell battery which will make it far more useable - this is after all a netbook!

dca860 i dont know, tbh i am just looking for a netbook for my daughter and have about £250 to spend at tesco, what would u reccommend?

Keep your tesco for something else, go for this one: hotukdeals.com/dea…205

I just helped my sister find a suitable netbook for her 14 year old daughter. She liked my Acer Aspire One and it did everything she wanted. However, we then had to find one that looked good in her mind. These things are lifestyle choices, and the appearance & brand is just as important as with a pair of trainers or a mobile phone. So, a £150 Emachines netbook in a matt black finish from the Argos Outlet wasn't going to be good enough. So, I found them a short list of netbooks in High St shops within the £250 budget. She ended up with a Dell from PCWorld for £249. Identical spec to the £200 Acer in this thread but with the Dell brand and a pink, swirly finish.
So, have a conversation with your daughter. Find out if you need to hold back a proportion of the budget for the cosmetics or branding. This can easily add an extra 25% to the cost, just to get fancy graphics or a high gloss finish.

can i just comment on ACER as a brand. they are cheap but for a good reason - they often fail. but that isn't the main problem - its their customer service and warranty repair which are utterly useless.
my acer timeline 1810tz has now been back to them 5 times in 2 months. each time it comes back from the service centre, they have created another new fault. they refuse to replace the laptop which is only 8 months old.

please please consider this before looking at an Acer.

Whats the fault on your 1810tz?
