"Out of stock" on the John Lewis website, but I phoned my local store on the off chance that they had some stock and I was told that there is plenty of stock at their central warehouse. It will be available for collection on the 19th of December.

Have you phoned your local store and asked them to check stock at their central warehouse?

Surely the central warehouse reflects what is avaiable online ? Also, the nearest JL to many of us will be a few hours away.

When I phoned my local store I was told that there were "plenty" at their central warehouse and thought that I'd share this with users of this site.

A very high percentage of the population have access to a nearby JL. If you don't then maybe you could arrange a delivery? I am not sure.

i have one next door to work. i don't think they're that sparse. arent they in most cities?

1gb RAM with Windows 7? Wouldn't fancy that.

It struggles with 4gb.

I live up in them hills I'm afraid. Lots of sheep and mountains. A lack of department stores. Never mind.

no it doesn't

i've had a play with one of these in john lewis last time i was there. win7 ran ok. wouldnt bother with android though, it doesnt really work as a OS if you are using it without touchscreen and with a mouse. maybe it was just as i've been using android on a touch screen phone for the last few years but it was horrid.

Not so. I have Win 7 Premium running on my MSI Wind 100 netbook - with the older slower Atom 270 cpu and only 1GB ram. No problems at all.

I have an Acer Apsire One 521, 1GB RAM with Win7, runs perfectly fine...
As for Win7 struggling with 4GB....doubt it somehow.

Rubbish, I have 4gb ram and even with 3 VM's running at once using 300-400 ram each it works flawlessly and can still be pushed.

Talking out your ****.

Edit: not to mention my graphics card reserves about 200 MB.

Like JUKKIE,I im on an acer aspire one 521 (we were on the same deal on HUKD), 1gb RAM on win 7... it can be sluggish at times but at £20ish to upgrade to 2gb shoul see it ok.

also i bought mine from currys, it turns out well in excess of 6 hrs use, has hdmi and cost £195 but only has 12 month warranty.

once the warranty is up ill stick the extra ram and XP on.,

No, not one in Birmingham or Manchester, although there is one in Solihull and Cheadle, suburbs of those cities.

A list of John Lewis stores really not particularly many nationwide.

For any performance problems with our netbooks, I'd probably point my finger at our puny CPU's, rather than the memory, haha.

Im really rather impressed with it though, my desktop rarely goes on now and the netbook is on LOADS. It handles P2P football on a saturday like a charm and VUZE is perfect even though im using Kasperski 2011.... AND i dont have to recharge it every 2 mins.

Win7 works fine with 1 gb but better with 2 Gb. 4 Gb is crazy.

No need for the extra RAM with XP as Win7 is all round better now that drivers for everything are appearing.

This laptop runs fine with 1Gb RAM, it's got Win 7 Basic installed on there.

Bought one of these for my mother-in-law a few weeks ago, once you remove all the Acer junk it's great. She uses Skype and browses t'interweb via Google Chrome and there's no issues.

What are you running that makes it struggle with 4Gb RAM? I have Win 7 Ultimate on my work laptop and can run VMWare machines and XP Mode and it's still fine.

i've noticed on these laptops running a hd video for a little while makes it lag a little ... that was with 2gb ram on win 7 no av as it was just for testing.

Less to do with the RAM or OS, more to do with whether the CPU or GPU can decode HD (e.g. H.264 encoded movies) content well enough.
Like I said earlier, I have an Acer AO 521, only has 1GB RAM and running Win7 starter edition.
It plays 1080p MKV's flawlessly on the netbook screen and via HDMI to a HD TV.
This is because, although the CPU can't handle HD video, the GPU can (using DXVA + Windows media player classic).

If your CPU or GPU can't decode HD contect, you could have any OS and and a huge amount of RAM, and your Hi-Def videos will still lag/stutter/freeze.
