depends what you prefer. FHD vs normal HD and SSD in place of normal HD.
I would personally go for FHD and SSD as the external hard drives are cheap these days.
You get some higher specs after paying some more.
but most people would do fine with 249 one..

Poor screen

it's a nice spec but sadly, there is a significant reason for this being refurbished and at this price:
community.acer.com/t5/…e/9

That is a lot of spec for the money, best deal I have seen for a long time. FHD, SSD, 12 Month warranty, a real bargain.

Wow that seems like an excellent price! I'm very tempted. Anyone know how good refurbished machines from PCWorld generally are? Lots of scratches and stuff or generally good condition?

Heat added. Tempting...

I think it was only £349 new in one of the PC World/Currys etc. a few months ago!

Full HD + 128gb SSD + i5 with iris graphics
Super hot, you get a lot for the price. Only thing I don't like is that it's 13.3inch I would like it to be a bit bigger like 14inch.

There's defo some quality control issues (as in they don't give a stuff and know full well it's sub par) but you can't argue with the value here, as long as people are aware they are getting a damn good bargain and not a free lunch.

Absolute bargain, hot!
As the guy above says, proper HD screen, SSD, current gen i5 (well not the one that's just been released in the NUCs but there's not much in it)....can't fault it for £300.

yeah bought brand new few months ago for £350

Great laptop but soon need to replace hard drive as it came with less than 90gb after all drivers, updates, office etc

Also the mouse tap button plays up at times

Yes, better quality screen and has an SSD already included for those ultra fast boot up times. Processor is exactly the same.

Shame it doesn't come with 240gb HD. I had it in the Currys basket and about to buy. Does it have two SSD slots or do I need to replace the 120gb altogether?

spec isn't the best!

I'm sorry but couldn't resist it in the end. I kept trying to put myself off with 'it's only got 120gb' (my NAS drive saved me) - I tried to go and have a cup of tea to forget it but it kept coming back to me, in the end I caved in. I bought it through TCB (1.05%)so should get £3 back AND I used my 1% American Express card meaning another £3 back (every little helps). Altogether should cost £299... SSD, HD, the 13" portability, I5 - should be almost perfect for me (would've liked a little more storage).

Thanks for the wonderful knowledge.

is it over kill to get this and the HP laptop because I really would like a portable laptop for work.

How about this for wonderful knowledge:

Caveat emptor. I looked at this laptop extensively before it was posted on here and the only reason to buy it is if you want a faulty product from the factory and the headache dealing with its manufacturing faults! Voted cold.

May have to go with this since I missed out on the HP deal

I prefer a 13.3 screen especially if it's also 1920x1080 resolution. And ssd is very good for everyday work. If you wanted a quick browse or check the email you don't have to wait ages for the boat ware to load before using it. I got a similar one to this yeaterday with 500hd, touchscreen and 1ghz celeron processor and wow is it slot. So it's quantity vs quality or more like speed vs size

If you don't have a desktop then it will be ok to buy both

Or you could just get a 2tb nasbox and keep it aside to use with this one and any media devices.

I looked at buying one of these when they were £350 new. Almost ready to press the button until I viewed one in PC World. The screen was very disappointing, granted it was FHD but it was dull and the viewing angles were not good at all. It looked awful next every other laptop there.

That's because it was on power saving mode and the brightness of the screen is adjusted accordingly otherwise the screen is good from the feedback I read.

So, does "refurbished" mean that they have sorted out the touchpad problem on these or are they just doling them out and expecting them all to come back for the fix?

and that was what she said!

£350 new was the lower spec version ( currys.co.uk/gbu…tml )
THIS spec was £450 new ( currys.co.uk/gbu…tml )
I bought this version, had a dodgy touchpad, Currys fixed for free. Took a week and a couple of phone calls, but all dealt with in the end

full HD on a 13.3 Screen, and a good spec for a the price. Hot from me.
There are good laptop with 15" screen and good processor, etc but they absolutely ruin the fun by not being full HD. This laptop is good spec but wish it was 15" or atleast 14.

This would be my third different laptop to have trackpad "issues"

1) This *1
2) CMOS NVRAM forgetting I set trackpad enabled
3) It just physically wouldn't work

*1 Without following the links what seems to be the problem here?

I actually read the same thing so i went back for a second viewing... adjusted all the settings and it still looked poor.
Its like it has a horrible film over the screen and like above said it looks terrible compared to most laptops in the shop.

Definitely try before you buy.

And yes the trackpad is bad.

1080p 13" core i5 ssd for £310? Really good value

To upgrade the SSD, would I have to remove the current one altogether or is there another SSD slot to add more memory?

yus786

absolute bargain

This or the HP Deal? or do you have something else in?

are all new i5/i7 mobile chips going to have iris graphics?
if so thats really good
