Quite possibly the dumbest comment I've heard all year.

Your statement is not true that's why. It might well be useless for you but it certainly isn't for many others.
I found 11" too small, 12" is great though.
Where are the times where 6" was enough ....
It's an 11.6" screen, PC World have made a mistake on their product specs.

"The V5 range is available with an 11.6-inch, 14-inch or 15.6-inch screen. "

Tell me about it!
I bought this on Friday. Great laptop. I had an 11" HP before with an AMD E450, this is noticeably faster when using Photoshop, build quality is MILES better. Graphics probably aren't as good but I've got an xbox for games!
Also available from Pixmania (part of Dixons group) for similar prize
Buy it from PC World or Currys and you get that borderline worthless £200 reward pack

+1

there's someone at work who will pronounce something pointless or useless because he too cannot imagine anyone else having different needs from his... usually it's anything non-apple is pointless :-(

HD3000
ark.intel.com/pro…98/
Definitely hd3000 as it is a sandybridge processor.
Anyone have any experience with this? Thinking of getting it for my sister. Mainly used for internet, word processing, spreadsheets and webcam/chat. Price and spec are good, cheaper than an xps 13 but still quick enough. Just worried about screen size being too small to use for word processing?
For those looking for something a bit bigger

No Intel Atom here...
Just the sort of spec and price i've been looking out for :-)

Rather, the name of "netbook" was coined for a cheap cut specs laptop less than £300 some years' ago! As this is better spec'ed so it is back up to £300+ again as a laptop!

Planning on playing many games/doing GPU accelerated graphics work on your ultra-portable small laptop?

Tell me, please, I really want to know what you need to do on this machine that requires the 4000 over the 3000.
battery life!
could someone let me know
thanx in advance

I had this size screen and found it slightly too small for my needs I have a 13.3" now which I find to be perfect.
This is a portable/second computer or main computer for a child or tech illiterate wife.

My Mrs has had an aspire one, which I think has an 8.9" screen, for about three years. This size is fine for single tasks. If you expect to keep dragging multiple windows around and doing lots of switching then it can be frustrating having a smaller screen.

Personally I don't think you want too big a computer if you will be sofa surfing.
I had an 11.6" Samsung x120 netbook for a while and whilst the screen was much, much better to use than a standard 10" netbook i eventually swapped it for a bigger 13.3" screen machine. The 13.3" is the sweet spot for me in terms of screen size versus portability. If portability is a top priority, then go for an 11.6" screen - it's fine for surfing, social networking and word processing etc. But if i was doing a lot of wp and/or spreadsheet work, then a 13.3" does make a positive difference and is the size to go for.

As for the Acer V5, cant comment on the battery life but otherwise it reads like a powerful, well specified machine. Have some heat.
Oh... forgot to say the main problem with thisis that its an Acer. Had two in the past...both died just outside warranty period ending. Also the aspire one noted above needed a new screen under warranty and has subsequently needed a new hard drive.

Not a premium or even a mid range brand...Acer are budget through and through.

Ouch! You make a few valid points in your post Reg but i've come across many tech illiterate males. The main difference being that tech illiterate males tend to make out that they know what they are talking about!
A great value alternative all be it a 13.3 rather than 11", is a Dell Vostro 131 from the Dell Outlet. Available with 2nd Gen. i3 or i5, and a 3 year next business day warranty thrown in. Usually under £400.

I already have an 11.6" Lenovo X121e which also has an i3 and hd3000, I wanted the updated chipset.
PC World do get derivatives in so the 11.1" is possibly right.
I find that an 11.6" screen has the perfect combination of portability and clarity but that's just my opinion. I've got a Lenovo X121e (AMD version - slower CPU than the i3 version but way better GPU) and it's small enough to chuck in my backpack/camera bag and not really notice it but it's good enough for decent web browsing/word processing/spreadsheets etc when I need it. Horses for courses really - try out the various sizes at a store and see what works for you.

That's not what she said...
I went with the Inspiron 14z
Bigger screen and discrete GPU
