Acer Chromebook CB3-111 (Refurb) - Tesco / eBay Best offer price - £99

Just had offer of £99 accepted - £10 less than asking, and £50 less than new on Argos, Tesco etc. I think this will do the job for web surfing, and if I really can't get on my 2 year old will have it to bang on.

People, do your research. A gimped laptop is a gimped laptop for life, you won't have saved anything rather regretted the day you spent on said hardware. Just plan carefully.

Funny I have been running on ChromeOS only for 6 months and never missed windows once.

No more Sloooow updates waiting minutes for it to boot, no more viruses etc to worry about, no more windows . . . . .

I have my old windows box sat in the corner in case I need it but the dust is building up . . . .

And now my Chromebook is about to get all the Android apps etc (Its an Acer R11) so even less need for Windows.

Oh and its not gimped, gimp is an open source image editor. Hey its so ad its now the number 2 Laptop/desktop OS in the USA outselling Mac's . . .

Maybe you should look again at the best OS for the mass's...
This has been confirmed to be getting Android app support! Sounds good to me.
Love my chromebook. Everyone in the office was issued with one for work purposes and there have been fewer issues with working from home since. Can't fault it.

no but on other items i've offered greater discounts and it gets declined
I bought a chromebook 18 months ago for my granddaughter brilliant wee machine very quick it's not a laptop but suits her needs.
I've on a Chromebook now. Don't miss Windows or OSX at all. Fast booting, and a great battery life.
We have a ridiculous array of items in our house for getting online, the Chromebook is by far the most used of all. I reach for it before Ipad or laptop unless it's work related.
got this the other day - hotukdeals.com/dea…382

Been using chromebooks for the past 2 years and wouldn't go back.

Pay more for a FHD screen though

Clearly hasn't tried one or got one. Once on a chromebook you rarely go back to clunky Windows. My chromebook is my first to go to device, second phone, third tablet, fourth laptop.
This is a great little Chromebook Picked one up cheap from amszon warehouse over the Christmas holidays - totally fit for purpose.
that is a good deal....

I'm going to go out on a limb here: you don't own a Chromebook do you?
I have used Linux for four years now and have never missed Windows.

If you find Chrome OS restricted you can always put a full flavour Linux on it.
Typing on this exact Chromebook now... great machine, first choice for web browsing etc. Just brought a Windows Machine and all I use it for is Skype. Chromebook is always the first choice for anything else.
I'm using an Acer C720 which I've had for over 2 years. Still going strong, never had any issues with it which I can't say for the budget Windows machines I've used. Looks like this model is going to have Android app support too which is a massive plus. £99 for a machine capable of being a lot of people's main computer is a steal. Hot.
pricey delivery at £14 but good deal otherwise. voted hot

Wuh ?

Free delivery to UK . . .;)
Bought a Dell refurb a few months back. It didn't even work when it arrived. Sent it back and bought three Chromebooks for the same price. One for me and one each for my sons. They boot up within seconds, don't get hot, run quickly and do web surfing well which to be honest is all I did on my laptop anyway!
Forgot about the Android support - that should provide access to Skype too when it comes along

Heh?
Its a Chromebook?

I bought my first HP14 Chromebook over a year ago, via HUD info, late last year went on holiday to Florida and saw an Acer 15" Chromebook in WalMart, absolutely rock bottom price. So I now have two.
The Americans have not yet caught on to the Chromebook so check out US prices if you go across there.

I wont be going back to windows any time soon, much prefer the speed of the Chromebook.

Correct.

You don't need to own and/or have a good imagination in deciding a particular product isn't up to scratch. Plenty review sites exist, its just a case of trawling half a dozen or so and comparing with similar products in said price range. Not rocket science.

Not too sure about the definition of UK andGB in this thread. (_;)
Just arrived, took 3 days although was sent 24 hour delivery, not the 48 as stated. Possibly because it took them a while to process the order. While it's no Mac in terms of screen, build or keyboard quality, and I won't be designing any websites or graphics on this. It's perfectly fine for web surfing as suspected. The speakers are OK, have them cranked up full vol. Video rendering is OK again. The screen contrast could use some work, appears very dark for netflix, but as I normally watch while doing something else, I'm not too bothered. I'm guessing I can get add on speakers if I really need them. The best part was setting up Cloud Print in a few clicks. There is a slight lag between clicking print and printing but nothing major. Overall, perfect for light use and the equivalent Windows machine would be a HP stream book at £30 more (new, didn't price refurb). Agree with the comment that if you want one with a good viewing experience get a FHD, but then that will negate the cost saving quite considerably.

Thank you. Got it for £95 in the end and it works like a dream. Perfect for light stuff and it looks good too.
