I saw the Acer Chromebook 14 posted at this price yesterday and found the R11 at the same price.

Although this is a much smaller device and lacks the metal finish of the Acer 14, it has a flippable-touchscreen and already has Google Play Store support.

Intel Celeron N3060 Processor
2 GB RAM

Acer - cold! Chromebook - cold! 2GB ram - cold!

Well the deal I mentioned from yesterday was all of those things and was far from cold. You might not be a fan but it's a lot of computer for £99.

Your attitude. Cold

There is nothing wrong with Acer or Chromebooks. 2 GB ram may be slightly underwhelming but still.

I am not quite sure is there a need for it? Its a chromebook. Any documents etc that you may want to save is saved in google cloud. To install apps and stuff 32 GB is sufficient. You can even install apps from google play store.
You will miss out on the constant updates, the reboots and prayers needed with this.

I have a Lenovo N22 with 2GB ram, and it's fine. Yes it's fairly limited in what it can do (vs. PCs), but it is good at doing what it does. Tempted to pick one up for the wife as she has a much more powerful but much heavier Thinkpad tank, and all she uses it for is browsing, Netflix and the odd email.

I have a 4gb 32gb version and its superb. Can't fault it. I paid £230 for it and very happy so at this price 2gb version is a steal. My only concern is only 3 months warranty with this one.

my 4gb 32gb version works fine. I bought it after looking at amazon reviews. Haven't regretted it.

Yes to be fair if this was an Amazon Warehouse Deal used one, it would be a no-brainer. Just not sure about the vendor in terms of what the service will be like if you get a duff one.
Bought my son one of these and he loves it, touchscreen is great while playing games from the google play store, internet browsing using keyboard, very impressed!! This does the work of his redundant hudl and old laptop!!

any idea of what approximate shares of apps work and don't work?

i mean this seems amazing if it doubles up as a tablet but also a proper computer for emailing etc

Everything that's isn't mobile specific will work from the play store.

Example of those that won't IE Pokémon Go as it needs GPS and gyroscope, WhatsApp as it needs a connected SIM and phone number. Otherwise everything is compatible

Price - hot!

Unless you've got something better for under £100?
great find
Just ordered one of these as an update from my Acer C720, which despite being an Acer, a Chromebook, and having only 2GB of RAM has been great (for what it is - obviously).

With the ability for running Android apps now, I would have really liked the 4GB version, but it's like £90 more (almost double the price) for that extra 2GB; so this'll have to do for now.
Great price thanks op.

Even then you can download the apk file and install apps which show as "not compatible" on the app store.

I've got a CCTV tablet app running on my ASUS chromebook. My chromebook has 4GB though and runs very smooth... tempted by this as mine doesn't have touch and I managed to crack the screen on my 10inch tablet on holiday!

Assuming you've sideloaded the app though as chromebook play store support is only on selected Chromebooks at the moment, even on developer and beta channel they are all touchscreen?

The likelyhood is your CCTV camera app is available to download with no issues on compatible devices like this or the chromebook flip anyway.

I have the ASUS Chromebook C201PA - Google Play isn't officially supported. You have to go to developer channel and then enable it via the console every time you reboot the chromebook (which in my case is very infrequently) using these steps iggy82.blogspot.co.uk/201…tml

Mine has 32GB storage. I believe this one has 16GB which is a shame because any Google Play app only has access to internal storage and not an external SD card unless that has changed?

Haha would have been clear had I read the title!! I was checking out the specs on other sites and there was 2GB 16GB or 4GB 32GB

Guess I'm biting the bullet. eBay £1 weekend will recoup my money if I change my mind later

It's very underwhelming.
4gb is the absolutely absolute basic requirement.

It doesn't mean you should waste your money.

Says who? 2GB is fine, even 1GB is usable. Just because you (random uninformed stranger on the internet) says so without any evidence whatsoever?

On a Chromebook running ChromeOS?

Mine is 2GB and I've not noticed any problem doing anything with it. That includes using Crouton to run linux.

Web WhatsApp App for Chromebooks
Edited by: "Dave_dave69" 19th Aug 2017
I'm still running a three year old Acer C720 with a similar spec. While the keys and trackpad are worn to a nice shine now, the machine still motors along like it did when new. As long as you don't try multi-tasking to the point you can't see what each tab says, it'll run fine.

Chromebooks are superb, hassle free, simple online computing. As soon as this one gives up the ghost, I'll have no hesitation buying another immediately.
andreasuk46 m ago

No, it really isn't, not for a Chromebook. I can't think what you'd be doing with it to need a minimum of 4gb RAM in a Chromebook.
Great find! Good for you guys who managed to get one! Now out stock unfortunately. I was too late.

On Windows maybe, but on Chrome, nah, unless you have dozens of tabs open actively in use. Which is somewhat unlikely

The way Chrome OS is going I'd rather have a touchscreen for Android apps. Even the app launcher is getting a touch friendly UI update soon.

That said, my personal Chromebook is an Acer 14 and it's great. The main difference for me would be that the Google Play Store comes as standard on the R11 whereas there's a bit of faffing about involved to get it working on the Acer 14 at the moment.
Edited by: "DirtyQwerty" 20th Aug 2017
I had an Acer Chromebook 14 with 4gb ran and even that wasn't enough- I don't recommend 2gb at all but £100 is really cheap I agree with that

Looks like it is possible but unclear if touchscreen is supported - anyone know if these have elan or atmel tochscreen?
