Great Chromebook at a good price! Heat added
Been looking at Chromebooks for a while and wanted this spec at sub £200. Took the plunge reserved for collection done.
Having never used a chromebook before and was hoping someone could give me some info on these.

I need to get a new tablet for my son but as he likes playing roblox on my laptop I thought I might get him this. I understand it runs google play apps but how is the performance android apps specifically roblox?

Any feedback would be good. Thanks

Hi, similar situation. I asked in another thread (but no reply) why someone would go for one of these over a tablet (+ detachable keyboard). Would be great to get some opinions...

This will be my first Chromebook too. Had a quick search for Roblox and looks like you can play it using the Google play app store and downloading the app. Hopefully someone can confirm this.
Order online for store collection and get Quidco back. 3% I think.

Someone on the argos questions page asked about Roblox.
Two people said yes it works on this.
Hope that helps !!

Can't speak for roblox but my chromeboom (similar processor) plays football manager (mobile) superbly.

If curry's can price match then they have a 90 day refund for any reason if that helps
Im tempted but worried 4gb will be slow, also is 32gb enough for the OS + some apps?

4gb should be plenty unless you're using it for really high-end stuff- photo-editing, coding, etc. ChromeOS is very lightweight so 4gb goes much further than on a windows machine. 32gb is alright but most, if not all, chromebooks come with a microsd slot so you'll be fine on the storage end

Not commenting on the chromebook itself but find it laughable that there's a £65 expert installation option.

Same worries as you but...

4GB seems standard now for this price point, personally not seen any 11.6" touchscreens sub £300 with more than 4GB.

32GB storage. This will be my first Chromebook, I'm hoping it works similar to my android 1 mobile with 16GB storage. Got 70 apps using 13.47GB on my mobile so hoping Chromebook works similar so 32GB should be enough for me. They are both Google systems using Google play store so I expect them both work the same.

I've reserved for collection.

Roblox on chromebook can be controlled with a mouse as long as it's not Bluetooth whereas tablets can't. Don't know about keyboard compatibility. Some games are awkward to control using just touch screen.

I barely go on Hotukdeals these days so I am not sure if this is a Hotukdeals inside joke type comment (Onkyo) but if serious, 11" Chromebooks are pretty much always 1366x768.
I havent seen one in person but its probably enough for 11".

How are Amazon vs Argos when it comes to returns if something goes wrong?
Resolution 1366x768 seems to be standard on 11.6". I have a shortlist and they all have same screen.

I have seen this model and played a YouTube video along side a 14" S340 and I much prefer this screen over the 14".

This Chromebook felt well built in shop too.
Would this be any good for my son to use for his college assignments?

Tempted to buy this, reserved one but doesn't come into store till Saturday so gives times to see if anything pops up in next 2 days. For anyone who does buy one the Acer store are currently doing a 3 year warranty extension for £24 after 20% discount which is worth considering uk-store.acer.com/3-y…ook
AO are now matching price at £199 also able to claim £20 cashback upon delievery hotukdeals.com/dea…d=7

Hi there. Thanks for the info but I'm not really into playing Roblox - or any games for that matter really. But appreciate your point about mouses/keyboards.

Any other notable differences when it comes to Tablet VS Chromebook when it comes to simple things like web browsing, social media etc?

Can't help but to notice that Tablets are significantly cheaper...

That makes this a very tempting deal indeed then! This must be one of the best if not only budget 2 in 1 Chromebook with touchscreen!

Are there any alternatives/competition at this price point?

My short list was
Acer spin 311 R721T - this deal
Acer spin CP311-2H
Acer spin 11 CP311-1HN
Lenevo C340
Lenevo C330

All priced last week between £249-329. I was hoping any 1 of these drop below £200, this deal has.

Haha I'd been doing the exact same research and my list wasn't too dissimilar to yours. I've reserved this in Argos for Sunday collection. Gives me time to see if there are any other good deals over the next few days. But this is for my 10yr old so I'm happy to go with this deal.

Funny, I've been doing research too and short listed the C330 & C340 too. Along with the HP 11 G5.

Having read reviews on this one though... It really does seem a cracking deal.

I think I might order from AO and hope the cash back offer works - thanks @jordanc93

One more question.... Does anyone know if the screen is detachable? Leaving it in Tablet mode?

Ordering from AO and using the cashback to purchase the 3 year acer warranty (its a deal on here) makes good sense.

This is a low-end CB with a small screen, one of the best in that category and this is an excellent deal.

However, it's not ideal for writing essays in college (in the U.S. sense of the word), more for children's use, or light use in adults, especially over-60s, for web browsing and media playback, because of the simplicity of use.

For higher education I'd recommend either a high-end CB, if your budget allows £359 (Asus c433, AO) or a medium-powered one if budget around £250, like Acer 514, deal now expired, or 315, cheaper, less premium but also middle of the road, also expired

I wouldn't fully agree with what has been said the 311 is designed with education users at it's heart. It's designed to resist a drop from 1.2m, has a spill resistant keyboard and it's impact resistant body can take up to 60kg of weight. If he is going to be taking it classes in college then this could be a good choice for him. Some of the models mentioned are paper thin and easy to damage.

I'd say ideal for primary/secondary education, it seems to be designed with those in mind. As a typing machine however, both small screen and keyboard show limitations that can be felt during intensive use in college. I'd also expect from adult students to be more careful with their own equipment than children/teenagers with school's

Good point about durability/abuse stress tests undertaken, important for schools to bear in mind before purchasing

Not only are AO.com offering £20 cashback on this but Quidco are offering up to £40 cashback plus up to 6% cashback on Chromebooks on AO.com.

This Acer Chromebook is included in the page that it links through to.

It doesn't confirm how much cashback of the £40 or the 6% are applicable to this particular model or others but it seems worthy of a shot. Standard cashback for AO.com from Quidco is 1.15% which beats Topcashback at 1%.

Similar list to mine, the C330 has also been below £200 the last week on Amazon. Not sure if the MediaTek processor in that thing would be better than the AMD here for a Chromebook.
